"Vanity" license plates

My 968 came with OOO-968, which I think they got before you could actually get just words or letter, so it has stayed on the car (as I am too lazy to change it).

When my wife got her last car, we almost got "PUTNUP" for it. She is still a bit sorry that she didn't get it, but instead got "4 DEBS"

For those that don't get it, it was for her literally putting up with me.

I thought about "SHUTNUP" in response, but my wife wanted "GROWUP" as she thought that would be more appropriate for me.

Perhaps, "CHILD" might suit some - but a bit defamatory.

The was an article ( read it a long time ago so I don't remember if it was in a magazine, or paper, or internet, etc.. but I'm sure one can search for it on the web, if any interest..) with a list of the most popular vanity plates requests, ones which have been already registered in every State so NLA , in the U.S., anyway.

In addition to the ones boasting how fast the car is ( yawn ) there were also quite a few clever ones but for some reason the one which is most memorable to me , probablh because it was the only photo in that article , showed a shiny black 911 Carrera driven by a lady and the license plate read simply : WAS HIS . Ouch. And that's taken in each state so I wonder if there is a mad rush of divorced women running from the courthouse straight to the DMV to be the first in line for that plate, LOL.

hmm, wonder if ( assuming it's available ) a ZZZZZZ plate might be appropraite for the 968 ... as in " Sleeper "

although...the car looks a lot faster than it is, so maybe not a good choice after all, hell, the hood appears long enough to fit a V10 under it, which is what they should have put in it given that $ 45K + sticket price in 1992 !!

Hey CA folks.

There is an option to sign up for retro plates. I am signing up for the black ones as all my cars are black and it would look really cool. Anyway if the state gets enough pre-orders they'll make a run (sound familiar?). So if you and your other car-friendly buds are interested sign up.

Hm interesting. I like our white plates here in CA since they're color neutral, though I don't like that they're now putting 'DMV.CA.GOV' along the bottom of the newer ones.

A black plate might be kinda cool since I have a black car.

lbpesq - F8K B8K translates to 'fake bake'. As in going to a tanning salon. Makes sense on a yellow convertible Vette!

When living in Western Australia I was tempted to get "KEPLFT" or "KEEPLFT"

This was in response to all of the idiots who drove in the outside lane when not overtaking or actually doing the posted speed limit.

For those who don't drive on the correct side of the road, it might have to be "KEEPRGT"

Another I thought about was "LRN2DRV", as most in Western Australia had no idea.

Perhaps "SLTCAR" or more obvious "SLOTCAR", or another one I have seen is "ONRAILS" to describe how the car handles.

You could scare people with "NOBRKS", or "LOOSNUT".

My wife, who has a bladder about the size of a thimble should have "ND2PEE". If you could add more letters, I would add "NOW" to the end.

That's too funny. Might get sympathy from the police for speeding and they won't even stop you.. Yeah, right...

Btw, why couldn't you add more letters ? How many are allowed in Queensland ? ( here in Ca you can have seven...I think )

ND2PNOW Or eight characters ? HV2PASAP

Gotta go now, I had too much coffee already and reading the above is affecting my bladder now :-)

I was thinking about simply "TBA", so when you get a ticket, it looks like they didn't get the number plate, or "N/A".

My daughter who is 12 should have "RGEW" or "RGEWMNT".

Wonder what the DMV would think of "AIMING" or "TRGTING"

For a crappy car "BROKEN" or "STUFFED".

Some people should possibly have "MOUTHNGR" or "LOUDMTH".

Perhaps for he 968 - "DIFRNT" as it is not a normal Porsche.

Sorry, another for my wife would be "BUSTN2P"

Craig , I think it's wonderful that you have such a strong marriage that you can mock your wife's bladder problems, worldwide! Lol I had a family friend who said that he learned in the Army that one should never pass up an opportunity to pee as you never knew when your next chance was going to be. Was your wife in our Army by any chance?

Rap,

No, not in the Army. The whole Need to Pee thing started in about 1999 when we were living in South America and actually flew to the USA for a holiday and every 10 minutes we had to stop for a whistle/tinkle. Michelin does a good food guide, we were thinking of doing a bathroom guide for travellers - as we must have stopped at around 50% of those available.

It is now such an issue that we are talking about going back to Canada/USA at Christmas with the kids and she doesn't know if she can do the flight, etc (and there are bathrooms on planes).

Anyway, back to vanity licence plates, not to just ridicule my wife, my eldest 12 year old daughter should have;

"RGEW" or "R GEW R". They say you should look at your kids and whatever they are naturally good at, should be aligned to their future career - given she can give good "RGEWMNT" as a kid, she must have to be a Lawyer.

My youngest should have something like "FLUTRBY" or "FLOATN" as she just goes with the flow if left alone. Or as she is 10, another would be "2MCHTV".

Rap,

Sorry, my wife is currently on the other side of the country, so I am a safe distance away. Give it another two months and I will be back in range. It is Mothers Day over here this weekend, so I better be nice.

Boy too many openings. Can she say Depends? Sorry to easy! My brother as a little kid used to check out every bathroom at every restaurant we ate at! I shouldn't joke because at Paso I was the first one to pull over. Jumped through a briar bush to get behind a tree. Two minutes later I caught the group because they of course had stopped for a pee break!

Craig - not sure if this is an urban legend or not, but I read somewhere that someone had NOPLATE as their vanity plate. So if they got a ticket, the officer would write down NOPLATE and whoever processed the ticket back at headquarters would think it meant the car didn't have a license plate on it and dismiss the ticket. Wonder if it worked?

Think DMV's would fall for this? Sounds like urban legend. Sounds too easy.

provided one believes Snopes is the best source for true vs false searches..

I'd bet DMV would never allow a NO PLATE request though..

It took the authority 2 years to realise that this plate probably shouldn't have been issued.

Judge,

You forgot to tell everyone to use a Kiwi (New Zealand) accent. When they pronounce "6" - the "i" sounds more like an "e".

Gotta chime in on this oh-so-worthy thread. So many cool plates, so little time.

My vanity plate is 9SIX8.

Hey Craig, we'll be waaaaaaaay down under next Dec or Jan, visiting friends who live in the Gold Coast and Brisbane area. We'd love to grip and grin with you awhile. PM or email me at your convenience. Email "txbigdog00 at hotmail dot com".

The first two or nine rounds are on me!
