I was walking through a parking lot this past weekend and saw a license plate I thought was just great. So I thought I'd start this thread and see what other good ones have been spotted.

My neighbor has a sweet little Audi TT............the plate reads.TT4TWO My plate letters are soon to be changed. DMV gave me 3 numbers followed by WUS.........I begged and they said they have to give them out in order. Sooooooooo I have applied for a vanity plate s***HD. the DMV website said it is exceptable. We'll seeeeee

If I'm understanding S***HD correctly - I would also assume that you're kidding. Otherwise, that would seem to rank with a BMW I saw with the plate DITZY.



The wife of a friend in Florida used to have a 500SL with BRN2SHP (translated: born to shop) - and she meant it!

I've gone trough three or four of them but prior to the current one I've had NVBLE9 and now it's simply IXVI8



I've also seen many clever plates which put a smile on my face, others which surprisingly pass the DMV censors,

and some which amaze me that are actually still available ( guessing people assume they're taken and don't even bother to check ) . the BLONDE plate, mounted upside down ( not the blonde herself, the PLATE dammit ! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) never gets old.

I need some help from German speakers. I am looking at possible vanity plates, for my new 968. I thought of "9 SIX 8" and "9 SIXTY 8" but in case they are taken I was thinking of "9 SECHS 8", SECHS being the German word for SIX. In colloquial english we say NINE SIX EIGHT along with nine hundred and sixty-eight, does the same apply in German? Would Germans say NEUN SECHS ACHT for 968?

You're kinda' right and kinda' not about the German translation. It depends on who you're talking to really. It also has everything to do with dialect. I've had friends and mechs call it both a "Neun Sechs Acht" but more often, and very much like Bio said, "neun achtundsechzig".



It's kind of like calling a 911 a "Nine One One". Not the norm for sure. Germans usually call their 911's simply "elfers" or just plain "neun elf". Gotta' love German!!! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Hey, what's not to love about Germany right??!!!!!

Jay already has the plate so putting anything more on his license plate frame would be overkill, but for those of you who wish to express the the same mesasage, you could buy the Boxster rear logo, affix it to your LP frame and find a narrow ( plastic or fiberglass, or similar..) RED color bar you can adhere over the length of the letters <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Although I'm thinking the logo may a bit too big for that purpose - maybe a smaller Boxster decal would do the trick..

Of course, the English to German translation wouldn't answer the question of whether 968s are referred to as "nine-six-eights" or "nine-sixty-eights."



That started me thinking about my own terminology. I've always said nine-six-eight to describe our cars but I've always said nine-eleven, nine-fourteen, nine-forty-four on those cars. I've always said nine-nine-three, and nine-six-four to describe those cars. I wonder why.
