US Clubsport Conversion
#1

Well, I've been busy getting my '93 coupe ready for the season. I finished the KW suspension last weekend, and intended on having it aligned today. Mother nature had other plans for the NorthEast, and I'm snow bound under 7 inchees of snow, and it's still snowing. As my car was in the garage, I figured I take the next step, and get the interior up to spec as well. I had purchased a Redline Roll bar, a pair of Momo 1000 Lakes Evo Seats, Schroth 6-points, and a bunch of BK hardware to put it all together. I also bought a '95 coupe rear seat, in hopes it would look better as a half seat under the roll bar than the normal 944 seat did. Well, take a look:

Thanks Guys! I thought the '95 rear seat would look better, than my original seat, when only the lower half was installed. With the Rollbar, the upper half is just in the way. Lots of litle details to go. The airbag wheel has to go. I don't want a face full under hard braking at the Glen or elsewhere.

Brian - How'd your progress go today. Is the mystery solved on the problem with your '68?

Catastrophic wheel bearing failure, which lead to a cracked hub and part of the wheel bearing welding itself to the spindle. Working on finding some replacement parts for not rediculous amounts of money.

Mike's coming over tomorrow to help me out with putting my, his former, RedLine bar in. Seats are already out, and 1 Kirkey is set to go back in already. Just need to drill some holes in the mounting hardware to get the passenger seat all set.

Ouch on the wheel bearing. There was a couple of fron hubs on eBay. I don't have a speare, else I'd offer it up.

On the harness, there is no tunnel side hole/mounting for harness/seat belt. If you drill, you'll need the backing plates. I have a couple of spares, if you need. Make sure you mount it in the doubled up panel.

OT- sorry but I have to ask, whats the deal with the rear seats? My 93 has a full rear seat, that is it starts at the floor (butt part) and goes up to the split where is folds then the upper part (that folds down). Yours is one of several pics I've seen with a butt pad and carpet on the back side.

Any thoughts?

I researched his before taking this on. All 968's until '95 had the regular 944 rear seat.

Here was mine prior to the work:

The '95 coupes had a carpeted bottom/back, with small seat pads, and a split top with horizontal stitching instead of vertical. I installed just the bottom half, the only "modification" I had to do was make a plug for the section where the two seat pivoted in the center. A small piece of carpet did the track nicely.

The hard part is finding a '95 coupe carpeting. I nearly bought one from a cab, which may have worked even better, as there is no seat pad. I tried to install without the pads, but there is just too much glue, and after more than an hour of slow pulling, I stopped.

I see. I like the look of the seperate seats, but it sounds like a pain to change.

Vaino, I just finished up installing my Redline bar today as well. How difficult was it to remove the rear seat backs? I still have mine in, but would certainly like to remove them, as they are useless now.

Brian,

Removing the rear seat tops is easy. A single 10mm bolt on the outsides, and under the center cover (Hidden under the two phillips screws), as two more 10mm bolts. Takes all of five minutes.

The split rear seats became standard in model year 1994, mid way through the model. About half the 94's have them and all 95's.

i don't want to rain on your parade, and i know you spent a ton of dough on it, but beware, that unit is NOT a roll bar - i know they call it one, but it very clearly is not

all sanctioning bodies (PCA, SCCA, etc) require in any roll bar that there be a minimum of 4 points where the load is transfered to the car, with a minimum of a 3/16" thick steel plate approximately perpendicular to the rollover load at each point (so as to spread the load and prevent it from punching through the car)

that unit will do little more than punch through the floor in the event or a rollover - in that pic it is clear that in the event of a down force on the bar, it will either sheer the bolt or rip it out of the sheet metal - there is no "landing" to take the load - please don't get yourself killed or hurt because you depended on something that is not sound from an engineering or safety standpoint

it should be perfectly fine as a harness bar though, and for most DE events there is no roll bar requirement anyway

i also like the seat conversion
