Just did a bit of looking around on this myself. One of my unopened XMAS presents is a JVC Arsenal KD-A815

CD receiver. Does everything you're looking for plus the illumination will match our cars. On sale at Crutchfield for $199. Also does streaming bluetooth music.

Putting a 1-DIN is pretty easy as long as you don't mind bleeding knuckles. How much you want to spend will determine your power, eq, BT, and other goodies options. Only thing you really need to know is that the wiring for the German system is opposite a Japanese system (stripe = negative), so if you are only changing out the head unit you'll want to make sure you wire it so as to be in phase. I've seen 2 German cars (this one and a BMW) where the head unit only was replaced with a Japanese unit, and wired out of phase and sounded terrible. Interestingly I also came across a German head unit wired like a Japanese unit and it was out of phase also <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />. They all sounded like crap until I switched the wires and then they sounded great.

2-DIN is harder and there is a great DIY here somewhere.

My next project will be the install. I'm no expert so I'll be looking on here for some advice. The previous owner made a mess of the wiring that's in there now.

check out the DIY under installing a NAV system. I took shots when I did mine and posted it; it was a 2 din box. Not hard at all. Best interior mod I did.
