Any original owner cars out there?
#1

I don't remember this ever being discussed, nor do I remember anybody ever mentioning that they are the original owner of their 968, so I'm curious if such a beast exists.

In my own case, I had finally saved up enough to buy a new sports car in 1993, but since the 968 was so ridiculously overpriced, I didn't even consider it. To me, the Maxda RX7 twin turbo was the only choice, so I bought one and loved it. At the time, we had one child, and the RX7 didn't have a passenger side air bag, so in an emergency, I could have taken our young daughter in the front seat. But then in 1996, we were pregnant with our second, and my wife matter-of-factly informed me that the RX7 would have to go. So I tearfully sold it, and bought a very boring Nissan Altima (mainly to save some money).

But looking back, if I had managed to stretch my budget to get a new 968 back in '93, I would probably still have it today, thanks to its child-usable back seat. But, back to the topic of this thread, I wonder if I would be the only original owner...

Not here, but in retrospect I'm an idiot for not having been an original owner ! Had plenty of money to get one but was still having so much fun in the 944 ( which I did buy new ) that I found no reason to get the 968 when it came out. WTF was I thinking ?! I missed soooo many years of joy <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I am the second owner. The first owner was a doctor in New Jersey who drove the car 8500 miles in 12 years. He traded it in Florida for a Caddy when he retired and I bought the green hornet from a used car dealer who picked it up at auction.

I paid dearly for it and have made the usual repairs - timing belt, pinion gear, rollers - but have enjoyed every second of ownership.

I plan to post a photo soon. I recently had the rear deck replaced and am now waiting for a new top to be installed as it like the deck was ruined by someone who needed a $149 JVC head unit. So it goes.

there are some original owners here - ron is one - we met another just before saxman bought the car from her

i am the third of mine - i also pased ont eh car when it was new - at the time it was WAY too heavy and slow - i built 3 hopped up MGBs that ran rings round it for the same money as this car was new - but that was when i was young and immortal, and didn't care about creature comforts and such - i also drank a lot of beer then

now that i am also heavy and slow, the car has caught up to my needs, and i am very happy with it - now i drink cabernet

sometimes it's just about timing, or just growing up (lol - or maybe just the alcohol)

I'm a third owner. The guy I bought it from only owned it for 6 months.

Bought for his college kid but then decided on a bimmer instead. The orignal owner was in suburbs of DC and had it from '94(new) to Jan '06.

I bought it in June of '06 with 98K on her. The second owner had a new CD stereo put in, that was it.

Now she has new tires, engine mounts, suspension bushings, struts and shocks, starter, dash, seats, PS fluid lines, clutch and FW, etc.

I love this car. My wife calls it my mistress.

In 1995 I purchased a new 968 cab for my wife. At the time I drove a '79 930. (smokiemon968 may remember the turbo )I really didn't drive her 968 that much. Therefore I never really got to appreciate it's qualities.I now regret selling her cab. Had I kept it my garage would have two 968 cabs in it .Oh well one is better than none.

In March of 97 I bought a 94 polar silver coupe with 731 miles on it. I was the second owner. Considering someof the buttoms had never been pushed and the tires still had the little nubbies on it I felt like the original owner! Sadly in January of 1998 I wrecked it with 11,000 miles (see crash pics, polar silver on a boulder). I didn't do anything stupid, I was blinded by the sun in a parking lot in a freaky accident. I was 26 at the time, but was responsible. I think the man upstairs was looking out for me because it was sort of ridiculous for me to have a $600/month car payment. I now have a 93 black coupe and couldn't be happier.

I'm the second owner of my car but I have owned it for almost 11 years. Don H. purchased his coupe new and still has it. There were a couple of original owner's at the celerbration this year. The coral coupe from MA was still in the hands of the original owners. I think because the cars were so expensive that we don't see too many original owners. My car has a sticker of $52K. I purchased it 4 years after it was sold new with 29K miles on it but I only paid $23K for it. Talk about depreciation. I never would have been able to purchase it new. And it hasn't dropped that much further in value after all the years of enjoyment!!!

I'm the third owner of both of my 968s. I think original owner data is often interesting on an expensive (overpriced?) car for the early 90s. One of my original owners was a wealthy older woman, the other was a professional golfer.

Oddly, both original owners of my cars were dentists, both cars are "green" with tan leather and automatics. Hows that for a coincidence?
