Watch out for DEER
#1

Well, it is that time of year where in some parts of the country the deer are just old enough to try to play FROGGER with you.

I lost this morning!

Funny how you do not even have the reaction time to apply the brakes or steer away.

On the way to work a young deer decided to run across the road, in front of the car, from the passenger side of the car .

I got a nice wack on the driver's headlight. No broken glass, just a nice pushed in surround at the headlight. It looks like the area below the headlight is pushed down and the lamp will not rotate without rubbing on the fender opening at 12 o'clock. I'll try to see if I can tweak it back. What a fun way to spend the 3 day weekend!

Head up to all who live with these wonderful creatures.

OUch! I feel your pain...2 deers in a 5 month period on the same road. Fortunately it was in my Miata ratrher than the 968...

PA is the #1 deer killing state, over 100,000 last year.

Glad that your OK, metal is easier to fix than flesh,

I happen to love those little creatures, on my plate, or in a tortilla

There's SOOOOOOOO many of those things here in Texas - it drives me nuts that the tree hugger wackos won't let us kill the varmints - you know how many people a year DIE from deer strikes? One human life is worth a million of those varmints...

Bummer ! Sorry to hear it . Tons of them where I live as well, and that's anotheer reason on many late evenings I opt to drive the MBZ, as I'd much rather have a dent or two in that car than on the 968.

Either car, the result is bound to cost you some bucks

Sorry, not really funny in this case, but still could not let the pun go..

Ouch! Sorry about the car, but glad you're OK. Just a daydream, but does this make you an ideal test case for a fixed headlight conversion...?

What is it with Polar Silver cabs? A couple of years ago, an SUV coming at me hit a deer, propelling it at a closing rate of 100mph into me. About $3K worth of damage, which wasn't as bad as I had feared. Just a little higher and I might not be here.

Thanks all for the kind thoughts.

Called State Farm Ins today and they said the when you hit a deer that it is considered the deers fault.

The deductible is not for collision, but for comprehensive. It will not count as an accident either.

The Insurance will cover all new metal work and paint ...no bondo allowed!

My PM recommended a Porsche body shop, so I am not worried about matching the polar silver metallic paint and keeping the mirror finish.

$100 is not that bad after all.

Brian,

Great to hear the insurance company considers this under comprehensive as opposed to collision ! At least, some good news out of the incident ( of course, aside from the fact that you were not injuried )

Discovered the front nose piece has stress fracture lines on the top and bottom surface.

Headlights do not work, headlamp motor on driver's side inop. as well as running clear light on that side. Are both headlights off because the drivers lamp assembly will not rotate up? If I mechanically elevate the driver's lamp housing will the lights go on?

I'll also have to get the 3M stoneguard replaced on the new parts.

Off to be seen by State Farm next week and then off to the repair shop when the parts arrive. Pain in the ass, as I can't drive at night.

We have lots of deer here in Idaho, and I've hit my share. We really have to look out for the elk and moose who are more of an even match in a meeting . On a drive yesterday, seven elk crossed the road in front of me. Fortunately it was an open area and I could see them coming to avoid them and just enjoy their graceful movement. I haven't hit one yet, but I don't want to. When you hit them you take out their legs and their body ends up in your lap!

Cheers, Stephen
