Trunk Key release not working
#1

Ok, sort of a continuation of a thread I posted a while ago and am just now getting around to fixing:

All of a sudden my trunk decided to stop opening with the key. It still opens when you use the button inside the car, but just not with the key.

I had Dave's trunk release mod in and thought maybe this broke and was the culprit. But I just removed it and reconnected it back to stock and it still isn't working.

Any thoughts as to why it would open using the button, but not the key? The key turns in the cylinder just fine, just nothing happens when you turn it.

Thanks!

Mark

any chance you messed up a ground back there when you installed dave's harness? if it was working before but not after, that would be my guess.

perhaps the wire was loose in the connector, or the connector wasn't hooked back up???

if the release from the front was in parallel, this would make sense. not sure.

just a thought....

Then the microswitch or something related is bad. The key turns a cam that flips the lever on a microswitch, and that makes contact to engage the release motors. Same function that the footwell switch does.

It was working for many months with Dave's switch installed. It wasn't like I'd just hooked it up. Sorry if that wasn't clear. It just kind of died one day.

Yeah, that was my feeling. Its the same mechanism, so if the switch opens it and the key doesn't, it must be something with the key not engaging the motors for some reason. I just have no idea what to take apart to fix <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

On my S2, I got so sick and tired of a malfunctioning intermittant microswitch (sometimes works, sometimes not -- cleaned all grounds but to no avail), that I just swapped in the mechanical linkage from an older 944.
