Top balance shaft alignment marks
#1

Any reference I find shows the alignment marks are to be at the 1 o'clock position for the top balance shaft, with the bottom one at 7 o'clock. My belt broke so I have no previous reference of exactly where mine were aligned.

The notch in my back belt cover is at 12 o'clock. What's interesting is that the shaft, with no belt installed, comes to rest (gravity position) with the alignment mark on the sprocket pointing to 1 o'clock. Are these "gravity" positions where you need to be? My sprocket is installed correctly (factory, never changed).

I plan to align the marks at the 12 o'clock position and check for vibration and adjust from there.

Just curious if anyone else has run into this one?

Use the marks on the covers.

As said, use the marks on the rear cover. The top pulley tends to be slightly on the one o'clock side of the rear mark. I'm not the only one to have experienced this when setting them. Good luck.
