Tip leaking left side
#1

I stopped for gas at a station near work, a station like all of West Virginia on a steep slope. As I was jockeying around the pickups to an open pump I was briefly distracted by an impossibly short pair of.. shorts. Anyway the car was rolling backwards slowly when I put in park. Of course my first thought was I hope nobody saw that. They did, even the girl. As I drove off after fuelling I noticed a puddle of oil and silently felt sorry for someone after I fixed most of my leaks. Obviously fate is not so kind and by the time I hit the freeway I was streaming a cloud. I got off at the next exit and called the flatbed again.

Last weekend I finally got under it and cleaned everything. The source of the leak was not obvious and due to the moderately fast run and amount that blew out there was atf everywhere. I jacked it and put cardboard under it and started the engine for a couple seconds and was rewarded by a nice puddle directly behind the left side axle joint. That is more or less directly below the atf cooler line connection. There was a little droplet on one of the fittings. But the precise location is still a mystery.

Anyone have experience with a bad leak in that area? Only happens when the engine is running and does not change when in or out of gear.

Thanks

Sam

Very difficult to say given oils unbelievable ability to travel. but perhaps balance shaft seals, which are located in the region behind the water pump.  This is a known issue, and a reason I have them checked each time the belts are changed (only replaced if leaking, if not say a prayer to the Porsche gods and keep moving).

This atf streaming out of the tiptronics or the atf cooler lines right at the rear axle. It must be either A rear axle seal or the cooler line fittings really hard to see...

For the record I do have some little oil leaks up front... but nothing a little drip pan cannot handle. And nothing like the atf stream any time the engine is running

I think a loose connection from the ljne at the rear. Retighten it. Or when it will not be solved replace the line. A rear axle can't be it because the seals are from the differential and that is different oil!!
