Tip to 6 spd??
#1

HI Guys,

I was wondering if anybody has transplanted a 6 spd into a tip 968?? Can it be done??? Will it affect the computer??? Will the mounting bolts line up??? does the torque tube need to be changed??

Thanks

i don't think it has been done, but it has been talked about before - i looked into this when i was shopping for my car

i'm sure it can be done, but it is a HUGE project - you will spend about as much as buying a new car - nearly everything is different, stem to stern

I think the general consensus is that if you want a 6 speed you should sell the tip and buy a 6 speed. It can be done (or so I'm told), but the amount of work would be painful.

A member of the forum has what im looking for minus the Tip tranny. I have been looking for this Cobalt Blue cab for some time now and I figure if I can swap my 6spd from my red 968 with the blue 968 tht would be great. Im going to try to do some research on it and see if its possible.

thanks

of course it can be done...just lots of work from the back of the engine to the rear bumper, plus electronics..

It should be pretty straight forward, just lots of labor X2. You will need to switch the wiring harness for the tip conversion.

Down load the service manuals and study them.

not straight forward - HUGE job - different bell housing, pedals, shifter, electronics, harness, radiator, cooling system, yada yada - yes, i'm sure it can be done, but "swapping" is going to be a nightmare - i'm guessing about 40 hours per car

if you decide to do it, PLEASE document it and do a write-up on the procedure - it would make for a great addition to the site

Just got a response from the forum memeber regarding the blue 968. She is looking to get 25k for a 92 tip, a bit high especially if im considering swaping the transmisions.

I didnt realize the radiator had anything to do with the transmision??

Thanks for the all replies.

Pretty common to run the trans fluid through the radiator for cooling.
