Thunk sound on shift under hard acceleration...
#1

So I noticed that when I'm accelerating hard, shift fairly quickly, and let the clutch out quickly there is a distinct, not real loud, thunk from the rear middle of the car. I've heard there is a common fix for this, but I haven't been able figure it out... Any thoughts?

Thanks for your response!

sounds move around a lot in this car though - are you sure it's in the middle? can you have somebody else drive it while you move around inside the car?

What is the history of the motor mounts? With lots of torque many things can move.

I have a clunk in the rear when changing throttle on & off, but this is not your condition.

I get this kinda soft thunk noise/feeling too while shifting under hard acceleration. It's definitely coming from the area of the transmission. As Flash said, it's possible it's the exhaust swaying on the rubber mounts and then bumping into something somewhere. After all, our cars develop insane g-forces during acceleration. :-)

I also get a slightly sharper thunk from the rear when I'm sitting at a light, it turns green and I quickly depress the clutch and put it in 1st. If I do this operation more slowly, no thunk. Anybody also get this one?
