This cab went too cheap....
#1

I was keeping half an eye on this 92 cab. I thought it went too cheap -- anyone know what the catch was or was it a good deal? eBay auction

that was pretty cheap - interior is a bit sun beat, but not that bad - white doesn't help much, nor does the mileage or engine bay condition - a little on the low side, but not that far off (maybe about 1500 low) - somebody got a good deal

Actually, if you look at the guy's feedback, the seller backed out and didn't sell (probably the right call for the seller). I wonder who he is, he's another SoCal 968er....

I emailed the buyer to join us... his reply "the sekkaer is pulling out" That is BS! If you are going to sell a car NR on ebay then you need to live up to the agreement.

Midnight blue seems to be all too common (every time we all get together, we have like 5 of them just over here). White is excellent on these cars and I don't feel hurts resale. It was my number 1 choice, and there are MANY others that feel the same. Tell the previous seller of my car that it hurt the value, HA. Blue on White is as sexy as it gets.

Huh! I thought it was navy on horizon blue that was the sexest!

eric - i didn't say that white didn't look good - i merely meant that it, in ranking resale prices in general, white doesn't help the price - neither does red for some odd reason - black and blue, while more common (at least out here), seem to go for more money

and larry, i love horizon blue - if i knew this car came in that color when i was looking, i would probably have held out until i found one

I would agree if we were talking about Hyundai's, but we are talking about a Porsche with limited numbers. The colors that stood out to me when I was looking were white, black, horizon, yellow, and cobalt...the other colors in my opinion were too bland.

Edmunds color adjustments (private party):

White -$18

Black -$45

Dark Blue -$63

Light Blue -$27

Dark Green -$38

Red +$64

Silver +$82

Yellow $0

This is comparing straight color. According to Edmunds, the demand for white is not on the bottom of the list. Next time you're on the road, watch how many white cars are on the road compared to others. They are not purchased with a discount, really.

i'm only talking about 968s - just look at the recent sales prices and judge for youself

in any other car, white is fairly desireable - it just doesn't seem to be the case in this one

i'm also not inserting my own opionions here - just relating the recent history (2 yrs) of 968s that have changed hands

If it's not you pushing your opinion, then lay down the facts. I haven't seen any, just your overbearing opinion. The midnight blues that sold for more (yours and Gene's) were due to mileage, not color.

oh come on - now you're just getting defensive - it's pretty clear, based on the last 2 years of people on the websites (ebay, autotrader, cars.com, 968.net, etc) - the white cars were slower to sell, and went for less than other colors

i'm not going to do your homework for you, but i'm sure others will tell you the same thing - i thought it was particularly odd though that red, typically a desireable color in a sports car, does not seem to be the case in this car

Do my homework? Ha. You've said the same thing about white cars over and over on theses forums. You're the one making the bold statements without the ability to back it up and so you're the one that needs to do the homework to defend their libel. Don't worry, I won't sue you; I crack myself up.

Without going into detail, we all know fading effects certain colors on these cars more than others. This CAN effect resale.

You know, we all have a tendency to watch the resale of similar cars to our own (of course Bob watches, takes notes, and derives complex theorems in his head for all 968s), primarily being mileage and color. I haven't seen many low mileage white 968s pass at all, hence my bold conclusion: Drivers of white 968's have more fun driving their cars.

"ability to back it up" - i figured it was so obvious that i didn't need to go into it

fine - if that's what it takes - i'll post the realities so you can see i'm right - clearly you haven't been watching - no worries

just as a test - what's the highest dollar you have seen a white car bring lately? cab or hatchback

p.s. - i'm not picking on your car, and this in no way is to indicate an personal preference - when gene and i were searching for his car, we did some extensive price surveying

just did a quick search on ebay and autotrader - quite a few white cars out there for sale - right now - you should take a look - you have to scroll down a bit to even get to a white car though

I'm new to this forum having just purchased a new (to me) '92 968 Cab. I bought the car on eBay from the second owner, a very nice gentleman in Austin, TX. My wife and I flew out and took a leisurely week driving it home to Medford, OR. The car has 51K miles, white with tan interior, black roof and TIP trans. Everything works and car is in immaculate condition inside and out. This is my 6th 924/944/968 body style car since 1982, three of which were purchased on eBay. As for the subject of this thread, that seller's feedback rating of (-1) would have kept me from bidding on that particular car unless I was local and could have gone to look at it before bidding. eBay is a great forum for both buyers and sellers, kind of a national garage sale, but for high ticket transactions you either need to see the item in person or have great faith in the integrity of the seller. A negative feedback rating usually keeps all but those local to the seller away and the price artificially deflated. The key to buying a car on eBay is to first, deal only with a reputable seller and second, let them know you are arriving to pick up the car with a round trip ticket. If it's not as represented, take the return part of the ticket and go home! Not foolproof but it's worked for me so far.

Here's the link to my car:
