buying advise: 92 cab runs hot
#1

Hi there,

I'm looking at a 1992 968 cab that I drove on sunday. has a lot of cosmetic issues, but seems ok otherwise.

-main issue at moment is it runs hot.

at idle seems ok, but when I run it up past 4000 rpms it climbs fast over the 3/4 and towards red.

-read some tips on rad cap, thermostat, and water pump.

how hot does the temp need to be to warp a head?

-ppi inspection is planned for thursday.... shop said they would pressurized expansion bottle to test for head leaks.

-thought there was a way to check for co2 in rad?

also, the trunk lid binds on the top. and right side window weather seal is missing. (see a few problem on top binding in that area).

price is 11k.

opinions please?

lol - look at your post count at the left - bumping does nothing (it's funny though) - however, you should now have access to everything

Try bleeding the cooling system. It may have air pockets.

The trunk lid can be adjusted and weather strips replaced. You can't tell if a head is warped with out pulling it and using a straight edge; you can test for CO2 in the rad but a head gasket does not always leak exhaust into it. Over heating can be several things; like Smokie said try to re-bleed the system with the heater on hot. When I got my car the pump impeller was loose on the shaft causing a similar symptom.

Also if you do buy it Welcome to the club.

sounds like an instant 1g$ in repairs...better subtract that from sale price.
