The 968 Club Sport
#1

Not sure I am a big fan of this. I know the value is high but that's only because it's rare. it really does not make sense to reduce the weight only by 400lbs. Only if you want it to race. This was a street car I believe.

Check this video out and lets hear your opinion.

Also not a fan.   I don’t see any purpose for it other than using it frequently on the track.   Furthermore, I can’t stand the M&Ms or Skittles look (  the matching color wheels )    But that’s subjective matter , so to each his own...     The only thing I do like is the steering wheel .

That is a CS wheel if you look back at the pictures I posted of my car it was factory ordered with that wheel even though its just a coupe,

The wheel is still available new from Porsche, and if you have air bags you will need the little plugin resistor to fool the airbag ecu

It was a very common upgrade in europe

And the fella doing the review is very annoying and thinks he knows it all

Quite frankly he made some mistakes in what he said. Dan I have white wheels with a white car.

Very annoying presentation, I skipped a lot of it.  Likewise don't like the wheels/rims, made a good car look like a set of trainers. Definitely not a fan ..... oh, and surly p'd a lot of people off by saying we couldn't afford a 911!!!!!

Some of us could have afforded any 911, but we chose a much better car.  It’s that simple.   Besides, these cars were by no means cheap and the incremental cost to buy a 911 would not have broken the bank of any 968 buyer at the time.   The fact that 911s were more expensive only added insult to injury to anyone who bought them instead of a 968.  ( except the appreciation vs depreciation of or cars, but if you buy a car and future market value is a key consideration,  your priorities are all screwed up as far as I’m concerned )  very typical of 911 lemmings to be clueless, as is this guy.

I also skipped large parts of this guy, but did anyone notice the strange headlight behaviour?

It's just wiggeling along all the time when changing lightbeams and during poping up and down.

popping that is

Very, very, funny! Kaj you have stirred up a hornets' nest within this generally gentle crowd. It was only a few days ago that Dan was boasting having "spanked" a couple of old 911s ..... what is the forum coming to??? Smile Smile

Sorry, I love it.... It's just nice to get opinions on the CS. I personally think there was no reason the create this product. They should have created a real track car in the first place, not a half ass version to begin with.........But??

PD: Yes, this guy is pretty obnoxious to listen too...I agree.

So Dan’s a spanker eh? I’m not enamored of the painted wheels myself although my targa also has them. When I got them redone I had red added to the outside of the rim. Looks subtly classic. But of course that is a subjectively correct opinion. This age old debate between 968 ers and the 911 crowd always misses the point. If you are a car guy you get the type of car you like and can afford. FU to everyone else. If your lucky enough to have more than one you get whatever else you like and can afford. I smile at the snobbiness of the 911 crowd. It’s analogous to arguing or comparing the length of ones manhood.

surely there are more interesting things to discuss or compare?

It is obvious that the presenter doesn't know much about 968s and is basically repeating what's presumably been told by the owner.

Majority of CSs came with colour coded wheels and I quite like that. Of course horses for courses and all that....If I'm not mistaken all CSs came in 5 solid colours only - Grand Prix White, Speed Yellow, Black, Indian (Guards) Red and Maritime (or was it Riviera?) Blue. The car in the video came from Japan as it has a distinctive grey shade in the rear lights. It is also stupid to talk about average handling of the car while driving it within city limits for 10 minutes. As we all know 968 is one of the better handling cars and it is very easy to check that by taking it to a short winding track without long straights where it can easily keep up with a much more powerful machinery.

You have to take into consideration that the CS was the cheapest car, here in the UK with no extras £27k

And they could not sell them, only 157 sold in the UK, most of those had sun roof added snd some even had air con

So they were not considered a track weapon back then just a cheaper car, a full spec Tip cab here at the same time was

£44k

They sold far more of the UK sport version of the CS, over 300

The CS was far to spartan for the money soaked city brokers that bought most of them

So 90% of this CS hype is generated by the media and dealers,

I believe the Sport version has only been made for the UK, or not Waylander?

That is correct about the sport, but the CS with Lux pack was available throughout Europe, this is essentially the same as a sport,

AFN the distributor at the time in the early 90s made the decision to rebadge the CS Lux as a sport in the UK to try and create a new model identity, this I believe was to boost very poor sales

These sports now because they have a CS chassis VIN number are being made out to be true CS with extras and sold as such, for extra profit

A quality CS in the uk can sell for anything up to £35k, the sport can make £25k

So you can see why they get changed, the funny part is currently still on the road in the UK, there are less coupes than CS and Sports, so the coupe is now the rarer car

This is all a moot point as they all have the same basic tin chassis and suspension, no matter what version, just a little less ride height

What I think Im trying to say is that a 360 lb heavier coupe driven well is just as fast as a CS, and its easy to lose most of the extra weight, have you taken out one of the 8 way seats!

Its all about the badge and media hype, the cars are all the same

Every info I can find points to the CS declared weight to be 2910 lbs, and the six speed coupe to be 3086 lbs.

That’s  a 176 lbs difference , so where did the 360 lbs number come from ?  ( unless the 8 way power seats were options on the coupe and the 3086 weight is the “regular” seats version ? )
