I did the math, considering the upfront $110K buy-in and the $550 per month dues. If you did the seemingly measly 20 days per year the membership entitles you to it would come out to $880(!) per track day.

That's a lot of days at the Glen to me.

They are setting aside 60 days per year for members, about what they rent out to clubs now, so i suspect no more PCA DEs there.

Sorry, the above is over 10 years.

I was up there for the ALMS on Saturday, and they had a booth trying to hawk the membership program!

I got into it, a little, with the guy at the booth. He said they had to do this, in order to pay for repaving the track. I asked if they weren't making money on daily rentals of the track. He said it was expensive and that they really didn't make any money on it. I asked him why Limerock charges $14K /day and how we can rent out Watkins Glen for only $7K /day...He said that he didn't know; but they needed to do this to help pay for repaving...autoresponse kicked in, I guess.

Then he asked me if I wanted an application and brochure...I said NO THANKS!!

Sheesh,

Jason

Haven't clubs been paying a "repaving" premium for the last few years?

I did read about the "club" and find it another slap at the car clubs and less endowed (money) car enthusiasts. It was a great day for Porsche 1 - 2 overall (RS Spyders) and 1 -2 in GT2. It was a tough day watching as I flipped between the F1 at Bridgestone and Lime Rock. I just don't see how the LMP cars can negoiate Lime Rock. I have driven it for DE events and thought the course was narrow for regular cars much less for LMPs. If they repave I would hope they also make it wider.

I've driven Limerock at a reasonable 1:03 in my car...

These guys were doing :45's and made the GT2's look like they were standing still!!

If I were on the track with them, I figure every other lap, they would lap me!

Sheesh,

Jason

I had a tour of this track today - http://www.eurospeedway.de/index.php?lang=us. It rents for $800 per hour. The longest course is nearly 12 km, and corner banking is 43 degrees. I didn't have the opportunity to drive the track, but I hope to sometime in the next few months.

There's a new track and club being developed near Charlotte: High Rock Raceway. A friend has just purchased a condo there, which gives him club membership. The condos will be track adjacent and have garages for your race cars.

There is also a new track being built in Texas, they are using Tilke for the design.
