#1

Anyone have a DIY \ pics, to remove the tail lights. I thought it would be easy but started to do it and can't figure out how. Any advice or pictures are greatly appreciated.

TIA

Very easy - there is ONE hug 'nut' that you remove, then the tail light should come out.

There may be some dum-dum in there keeping it stuck in...

those plastic nuts are covered by a rubber cap, so when you pull back the trunk carpet you may only see the top of the rubber cap - pull/wiggle the whole rubber piece out...and don't be shy, some may require a bit of wrestling.. and the head of the nut will be exposed - start unscrewing it ( it will seem like it takes forever..) but eventually the light cover and tail light assembly will fall back, the wiring should keep it from falling on the ground, but keep a hand under it just in case..

Not so far-fetched ...I'm a little surprised Porsche did not actually design this assembly in a way that would require half of the car to be taken apart in order

to change a $ 3 part. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I guess they reserved that thrill for the engine / power train only... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Thank Gwad for this search feature. This old post just turned my repair job from a frustrating hour long search party to a 5 minute job. Thanx to all who gave the input above. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!

interesting... my car doesn't have rubber caps over these nuts. perhaps a PO lost them? I assume you're referring to part number 9 below?

what function do they serve? sound insulation? water?

Yes, item 9 is the rubber plug. Probably both sound and water insulation and exhaust gas too. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

I have been fiddling with one of my brake light sockets that does not hold the bulb in good contact and thus it does not work sometimes. It you have a light out and the bulb is good, the socket might be the culpret. Check it over thoroughly.

Cheers,

Stephen
