hmmm - i have seen exactly the opposite on a normally aspirated car - let me first say that none of them were less than stock, because i had the header and all that, so everythign was above the stock line, but comparatively, there were noticeable differences



the 100 cell cat, while flowing nicely up top, and making more horsepower, dipped torque at 2-3k - same for the 200 and 300 cell cats, to lessening degrees as they got bigger - the dual disk cat has been the best so far - the plan is to go back to the stock cat, and re-acquire the torque lost, as well as clean up the emissions, which have been miserable with the aftermarket cats

Ah!

I also experianced a big dip at 3400rpm with 100-cell cat. even greater with sports cams...

The over-all best results we got on my car with stock cams, RSbarn header, 100-cell cat and cargraphic catback plus the shown intake / box...

i'd love to see those charts - it's so hard to say "best" or "better" when different people look at different things - i look at the area under the curve for street driving, focusing more on torque between 2 and 4k, and more at peak horsepower at higher rpms for race cars, each one being more important for its intended use



that is exactly the kind of thing that has led to so many chip discussions - most people don't even know how to interpret charts, and consequently many heated conversations have sprung up surrounding chips and which one did what and how



cats are the same thing - i am trying to find the best street setup, without sacrificing torque, and maintaining emissions standards - i barely passed with the big aftermarket cat, and didn't even get close with the smaller ones - yes, i gained a couple of ponies up top with them, but also lost down low, and more importantly here, failed miserably at the tailpipe



seeing other charts before i go ripping and welding AGAIN would be helpful

I am with you concerning the "best" setup for a street-car; Things like the integral / area under the curve, the "overall torque" but also drivability and pic-up, the absence of hills and even more dips at midrange when possible a permanent up of the performance up the revs are things that made me say that. Unfortunatelly - like I said somewhere else a capital computer-brake-down took all these graphs with it. But I will try to find some of them; maybe my specialist has some runs saved...

Took some pics of the almost finished mechanical setup. I am very sorry to post that bad quality here, but I just had my handy with me and it was relativly dark. Still I hope you get an impression of how the engine bay looks like now... just great!

Kunz...nice work there. Is the tower-brace home made? I have not seen onre like that for the 968 before. Looks to be a sturdy bit.

I was also wondering about the 4-pt brace. It looks nice, and quite solid - sufficiently so to have me wondering what's happening to other parts that aren't so well braced.

as i remember, this was discussed a while back - he made it himself - clean unit - gotta lose the fuel rail cover and the plastic covers, but certainly looks like the bees knees - glad to see somebody doing something to the chassis to handle the power

...yes, it is homemade:

I used the KLA brackets as a start of, took a 30 x 20 mm INOX tube for the main brace, 30 x 15 mm INOX tubes for the cross, welded "brackets wide based to the firewall. On the attached pics it is not finished yet as also the connections brace / KLA-brackets are welded now and everything is painted again. I could heve kept the modified railcover but as I had to change the injectors and it was just a part that isnt really needed, I would let it away. Clearance to the hud is at the limit like with the one I had befor...

I only found one pic where you can see that the car is "braced" here and there for over-all stiffness... I really feel comfortable in there <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I started of with a 8-point screwd and ended up (till now) with a 17-point welded...

OK!



Yesterday we let the car run on the lift; perfect ideling, nice sound. There are some little things to be done mechanicly befor the tuning process beginns...

So today I took some better pics for you to see how my car's bay looks like now. Unfortunatelly we are still waiting for some sealings for the power steering pump to arrive, so the car has not been moved jet...

I also took a pic from under the car / behind the bumper / in front of the cooler; there you can see that the IC is pretty much up and save and a big part of the radiator is fully in the wind which will help termal health. As said befor we sure will use the cover from bumper to the engine bay to force the air through IC and radiator...

Love the pics Kunz, you are doing a great job. I noticed that both locations that I could think of using for the idle control valve intake before the throttle body look to be capped off. You said you have perfect idle, can you show where you have that plumbing for the idle control valve coming from? I like your IC mounting and may relocate mine to that location as well. I have a wider oil cooler there though the spacing may work out to fit there.
