Had my timing and bs belt replaced by local mech. They are pretty reputable and have done a good job in the past. First time they saw the SC. Added 3 hours to the job - they did not agree that they could tilt the unit out of the way and so they deinstalled and reinstalled it. They commented that the kit was really nice - the best he had seen. So far so good with the reintall - car and SC are running just fine. Love that car BTW.

crap!!!! i hate it when people second guess me. they were dead wrong. it is actually very easy to get it out of the way, and would have only added 30-45 minutes to the job. more than that, now we may have a problem if they didn't get anything right (belt alignment, bolt torque, etc).

3,000 miles with nary a problem. guess I got lucky with these guys. They are pretty knowledgeable and typically don f*ck things up.

To the SCF : when you floor the gas pedal ( not simply on boost and only partially pressed down, but at full <acronym title='wide open throttle'>WOT</acronym> ) does anyone notice a small cloud of dark grey smoke coming out of the tail pipe, for two or three seconds ? Or is that just my car ? And not when the engine is cold, but rather after it's fully warmed up.

it goes a bit rich when you nail it. that's to prevent detonation. the ECU is pretty slow, so it takes a couple of seconds to catch up. it only does that at heavy throttle positions though, and more so at higher rpms than lower ones, as that is where there is more advance and a higher chance of detonation.

ah - now i really understand. the tip fuel programming is more aggressive programming on throttle squish than the 6 speed, due to the possibility of it changing gears and the revs suddenly going way up. i wanted it to be really safe.

(And it still passed the Ca. emissions test with superlow numbers , but they never test <acronym title='wide open throttle'>WOT</acronym> I think they only go up to 2500rpm. )

correct.



i probably could have been a bit more conservative on the tip fuel programming on heavy load, but given that this was a stage 1 kit, and the injectors are maxxed out, i wanted to be sure it was as safe as i could make it. had i not have done that, there was a possibility that there could have been a moment where there wasn't enough fuel to cool things off, and at the worst possible time.



if you ever go to stage 3, i can reprogram, and peel some of that back. but, it will mean the car needs to be here for at least a full day, and you need to drive it while i tune it.

Now that's just not true, many-a-member of this respectable forum are far more frequent users of the pedal to the metal m.o. than I am. Oh, sure I might be among a very limited faction of us that are crazy enough to have taken these cars to their top speed limits on a few more occasions that I care to admit, but that's a different story altogether. Finesse is my middle name while driving these cars...until of course I see an opportunity to let the SC breathe a bit and serve the purpose for which it was built - I would not want to disappoint flash by failing to put his product to the stress test often enough . Yeah, that's the only reason I'm stomping on it , LOL !

Hey Bob, this " commuter car " can smoke a Lamborghini Countach , so your statement is not far off the mark :-)
