Whats under the rear deck in a Cab?

I had originally mounted my 2 amplifiers in the rear cubby behind the driver. The summers down here in Tampa proved a bit too warm and the subwoofer amp would shut down after an hour or so untill it cooled down. I moved both of them back to the rear deck to get some air. I wanted to mount them more permanently to the deck with sheet metal screws but I can't tell how much room I have under the deck before I hit something. I want to mount them as far towards the push down rear seat pads as possible.

not sure what you are calling the "rear deck"



the gas tank is directly beneath and right behind the sheet metal in what would be the "optimal" locations, so be VERY careful about drilling



if you could take a shot, and point to where you are talking about wanting to put it, that might help



i have 2 amps located in the space in the trunk, behind the right wheel well - underneath the carpet "flap" - no issues with heat or shutting down, even here in los angeles



some amps cool directionally, and orientation is critical - i would take a good look at that - it might be that the amp merely needs a different orientation

How can I tell about orientation? Are the amps marked? I have them now laying flat on the carpet right behind the rear fold down upper seat pads...........the ones that separate the truck from the passenger compartment. I guess I should have said the trunk deck. I'll take a pic when I get home and send it along........

that should work fine



when i said "orientation is critical", some amps require either laying down flat, like you have them, or hanging vertically, but specifically in one direction - in those cases, it has always been with the markings upright



if you could take a pic of where they were when you were having a problem, i might be able to help

I'll send a pic Flash, but they were stacked on top of each other laying flat in the cubby. To be honest, it happened again since being relocated to the rear trunk area, but it was really hot that day and the jams were crankin' so I'm going to have the stereo shop who installed it give it a once over. Amps are guaranteed for a year so I'm good. I'm thinking that maybe the wire to the sub isn't enough guage? Working too hard? Its a Memphis 10" sub and I'll get you the amp description and some pics.

what are you calling the "cubby"? is that the storage boxes or the area behind the wheel well in the trunk?



yes, could be the wire, either speaker, power or ground - please send the amp specs and the speaker specs, and i can tell you what you should be running, and then you can check that against what you have

The storage area behind the front seats with the padded doors. I think I read somewhere were you had one sub and went with 2 becouse it just didn't sound right. I think I need 2 subs , one behind each front seat. When your in the pass seat with the sub behind you, sounds perfect, from the drivers side, even though bass is non=directional, I hear it from my right ear. Sound is not as full.

my situation is unique



i went with a custom built fully enclosed dual sub that replaced the storage boxes altogether - it is .35 cu ft per chamber, and contains an 8" 4 ohm JL audio driver that goes down to 26hz - each driver is driven by a Profile 400 amp bridged mono - those amps are mounted vertically, side by side with about 1" between them, in the cubby behind the left wheel well



amps can shut down for a number of reasons - besides overheating, the resistance can be wrong, the power insufficient, the ground insufficient, or the conductor insufficient - the driver itself may be causing the problem too



let's start with figuring out what you have, and then we can go from there
