Power steering pump leaking
#1

Just getting ready to stop a power steering leak.

My PM says that the leak is coming from the pump, but I am also getting fluid sweating around the rear reservoir hose that leads to the cooling coil. I have already replaced the "easy" hose coming from the tank.

The tank will be ordered as well as the hose/coil line. I will tighten the bolts on the pump to see if that will stop its leak before I replace the pump with a rebuilt unit.

Does anyone know how much torque the pump housing bolts need to be set to?

Is there a DIY for the pump and the cooling coil for our cars, or will CLARK'S be what I need?

Before you shell out the money for a new cooler to replace that rubber hose, pull out the unit and bring it to a hydrauilcs shop, they should be able to replace just the rubber hose. I brought mine to a shop and they braised on a male fitting onto the cooler line and made up a rubber hose to the reservoir with a female fitting so I can replace it easily in the future. The new line cost me $25, which is about $100 less then a new unit. I would replace both hoses and the crush washers on the pump and see if it stops leaking before pulling the pump. I just recently rebuilt my pump, it wasn't leaking from what I could tell but I was replacing basically everything in the system anyways and the rebuild it was only like $30. Rebuilding the pump is easy and really doesn't require directions, which they don't provide. Just pull apart the pump and replace the seals with the ones in the kit. There is also a mounting bolt on the pump that is known to leak, you may want to check there also.

Thats great advice. As stated the pump is an easy rebuild. Just be sure to clean everything really well. Lube the new seals with PS fluid at assembly.

Does anyone know if there are 1 or 2 crush washers on the banjo fitting on the power steering pump?

Are they the same as the ones on the drain plug? If not part# please.

Thanks

The hose on the bottom to the rack has two washers, one on each side of the banjo and are 14x18 OEM-90012304220, the top hose from the reservoir has one washer and is 16x20 OEM-N10018401
