After market stereo you can see top down?
#1

As the title says, I'm looking for a aftermarket head unit that you can see with the sun glare you get in the cabriolet. I would like one with mp3 and cd changer inputs if I can find one.

Thanks,

Mark

I just finished (well, almost finished) installing a new Alpine with MP3, iPod, Bluetooth, CD, and CD changer inputs. Great unit - but, despite what I was advised by Crutchfield, the display (and I got the more expensive unit because of the better display) is invisible in the sun!!! Arghhh. I'm learning to live with it.

That, I think, is going to be the story with all of them. Did you put in the 9857? It is on my short list.

i just stuck in a new pioneer 980 and i have had a similar problem - it's visible, but took some work to choose the right background to make things work well enough to see at all - the angle is just wrong for the deck - i will be trying out some things to see if i can make it better

Yes, I installed the 9857. As Flash says, the angle is simply wrong. If the face was more vertical, it probably would be great. Right now, if I need to see the info, I use my had to shade the display - if the sun is behind or above me and the top is down. I'll get used to it, as I'm otherwise pleased (well, almost totally pleased - I still don't have AM reception but I'm working with Crutchfield on that - Alpine was completely unhelpful).

Hmmm When I saw the eclipse had a titlting face I looked at them but figured the tilt was all up and that would actually make it worse. Now I have to go look at them again. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Plus they are all black which works well with the interiior.

Thanks.

I think the AM reception problem is from the power module for the antenna, I've defintely seen this reported some where on .net.

Thanks, Mark - I'll try to find some clues there. Interestingly, I had fine AM with the old Sony unit, that's part of why I'm puzzled.

Maybe the power lead was disconnected during the change over?

I guess that's possible. Now for the silly question - where is it? I do have a "spare" black wire in the radio area of the console that I don't know from whence it comes - and I don't know if it was connected to anything before I did the dash replacement and radio replacement. I guess I'll spend some time pondering wiring diagrams to see if I get any clues.

I have the AM reception problem too. I'll have to look at it more closely.

I have been shopping for a new amp for my M490 stereo. Alpine has a 400X4, 100WX4 (4ohms), and based on my scale is about 8lbs lighter. This is more than I plan on outputing, but would be a great option. A/D/S/ has some sick sounding lightweight 4 and 6 channel amps, but of course at a cost. Even though the power output isn't as high as an Alpine, RF, etc...its the clearest sound I have ever heard when accomponied by some nice MB Quart or A/D/S/ speakers.
