Wider tire options on the 9" rear rim.
#1

I saw the thread below where Bob is running a 275 on the factory rear 17x9" rim. Has anyone else moved to a larger rear size tire on the factory 9" rear rim and what have been your experiences?

Thanks

Jeff

I run a 275 on the back as well. I find the ride preferable to the standard 255.

Thanks Phil, in what way is the ride improved? How does the 275 tire compare? Wider? Taller? both? Thanks!

Wider and slightly taller, fills out the wheel well much better. I don't find it softer.

I find the rear of the car feels more planted, and stable, my butt meter says it corners better to.

I've tried a few different tire brands as well, but I'm sticking with the 275s in all versions now.

My car came with 275/40-17 in the rear, and i went back down to 255's for the street tires. With a stock suspension the 275's rubbed the inner fender under hard high speed cornering around Sebring. Now that I have better suspension I may go back to it, or I may run 255's all around since I have 17x9 's on all 4 corners. Imhave some time to think about since bothe sets of wheels have fresh rubber.

265/35 is the common swap. be careful how much you change the outside diameter, relative to the front. too far and the ABS is disabled.

remember too that the speedometer is calibrated for 25".

more tire generally means more weight. something to think about if you are worried about acceleration and braking.

you can often get more tire and stay in the same size, merely by choosing one that is made wider. tires vary a LOT even in the same size. as an example, the michelin pilot sport was .75" NARROWER than the bridgestone S0-3 in the same 255/40. tire rack has specs for most tires.
