Stereo Install
#1

This is the write up of my install.

Components:

1) Sony GT520 head unit

2) MA 529C component 5.25 and silk tweet for doors w/ adj. crossovers

3) Infinity Kappa 462.7 rears

4) Visonik 4x100 amp(inexpensive but built with quality components)

5) Boss Bass600 8inch 200w rms powered slim profile sub (not 3 12 in Volfenhags) Appears well made with good quality components (and inexpensive)

Above chosen for price and quality (but I have never used Boss or Visonik). Amp an sub can always be changed easily. Spend some tiem chosing speakers and head unit.

Tweeter install. Need to remove or almost remove door panel. This is much easier if you have stock tweets already mounted.

1)Remove large retaining ring from back of stock tweet. unhook or cut wires

2) gentle pry away front grill

3) gently pry out glued portion of tweeter fron front of housing (old plastic so go slowly) thin stiff knife works well)

4) use a curved file and file away inside unitl forms a snug fit with new tweet. Intsall trim ring and new tweet in proper orientation. My tweet has a 1.75 in body diameter..fit perfectly.

rest to follow......

Pics loading in random order..finally got them to load in order, but backwards

Since the gauges have been fixed and most of the old stereo wiring removed. I started laying out the new wiring.

Found a well made inexpensive 20ft rca cable with power wire. Will run three of these. One for fronts to amp, one for rears to amp , and on set for sub.

Will run down passenger side, up through wheel well, and into trunk. There are several channels with unused metal retaining tabs in the rea pass foot well which course under passenger seat and run next to tunnel. Same route as antenna cable.

Plan to put 4 channel amp in one well and sub in the other well. 20ft cables are more than enough.

pic also shows prefitting of infinity speaker. Fit right in with no mods. You can see Porsche designed for another speaker type as well. However, I do not want to change side panel...

This stereo is really just for listening when parked, but should sound good when driving, too.

a little more work today (between gardening and watching kids and going for one hell of a ride in an original 1950's era 300SL convertible through winding hills outside of Ann Arbor, Mich..WOW!!)

These speakers fit nearly perfectly under the armres. Just needed to trim out a little from the housing with a saber saw.

I am leaving off the side pockets and will cover the speaker housing in German velour and manufacture a proper grill cover.

Thought about putting speaker in door but too close to window and I really did not want to cut a hole in the panel...

speaker sizes: OEM rears are two sizes, I guess depends on which stereo option you chose...

6x4 and a hair over 5.5inch (the indented round circle of the hole cover)

I did not pull the cover to see if the underhole is bigger...

Hi xrad:

Are you familiar with the hi-fi system and its tweeters? I have those tweeters and they have 4 connectors in the back - which wires from the crossover go to which of those connectors?

Do you or anyone else have a picture of the wires connected to the tweeter?

Thanks
