Short shifter
#1

Had the short shifter installed today. Wow, what a difference. Got to get used to shifting with it. Reverse is a little tight. Overall it definetly a good go fast goodie. Had a "jerk" in a Honda with a "beer can exhaust" and I smoked him. I had to test it.

See Design1Racing....all OEM fit, but shortens the throw.

Yes, the Design I short shifter. I didn't do the install. Itr was done at IMA and took Ivan about 30 minutes to do. Relatively straight forward.

I finally got around to installing my D1R short shifter today. Installation was straight forward, instructions were excellent. I made one deviation from the instructions though, instead of using a dead blow hammer to install the bushing I heated the bushing in a cup of hot water and used a C clamp to press it onto the shifter ball. Slipped right on. Then the spring clip broke during assembly. I took the circlip off my 944 and used it. Fit great and is alittle beefier than the thin spring clip (this would be a good part to include in the shifter kit if it doesn't cost too much extra).

After driving with the short shifter for two hours, I really like it. Shift effort is higher but not bad. Reverse takes some getting used to but shifting is smooth and has the same feel as stock, just shorter.

Thanks Bob for creating a great product.

funny - i now use a vise with some grease and put it on that way. i'll probably be changing the instructions. the only reason i didn't was i didn't think anybody wanted to go out and buy a vise, and that they might not have a bench on which to bolt it, but they might have or would be willing to buy a hammer.

double check the shifter angle. reverse engagement is negatively affected if the angle is not right.

Warming the bushing made a big difference too. Since outside temps were in the 50's here I didn't want to take a chance it would crack and it also made the opening larger making it easier to press in with a C clamp. There was a little play once pressed into the socket but after it cools down the play is gone forming a tight fit.
