Saw the new boxster
#1

Our Porsche club had our monthly meeting on Tuesday at a local dealer and they had a few of the new Boxsters. Nice, but really doesn't do anything for me. I have to admit, the new cup holder design on the 997 and Boxster is pretty slick. You'll have to see it. Sad that I noticed that but I still can't see that motor <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />.

Recent spy shots of the Boxster Coupe. Rumors are it will be named the "Cayman." Supposedly will debut at the Frankfurt show in September.

I think if anything it looks like a cross from a Crossfire and 997.

When it is released for sale the pricing will be inline with an 01, possibly 02 Carrerra. It is cool to see a Boxster coupe being released. but I would take the 996 coupe over it any day.

German magazine rumors put the opening price between the Boxster and Boxster S to avoid any thought that it is the "cheap" Porsche. Supposedly there is also a CS version in the works. Debut scheduled for September Frankfurt auto show.

I'm surprised they'd try to get any more than the convertible (whoops, 'cabriolet', the pretentious term)

Am I the only person who likes opening their hood and looking at that beautiful Porsche engine? With the Boxster coupe you'd never see the engine, and every job would require putting it up on a lift and working from underneath ...

Seems to me our 968 design has a pretty nice balance of accessability and space utilization.

Maybe true - and the car is a winner in the looks department. The long hood, short body Ferrari Daytona shape is always attractive. But for sheer handling there is no way to beat a mid-engine layout. And the Boxster does have two trunks - which leads me to wonder if this little thing is a hatchback - probably not in which case it will have the same storage problem that the 911 has, only worse. Anything large and bulky will have to go through the seats.

But then again, I did not buy my car for its 'space utilization,' even if it is handy on trips.
