Salvaging things after a fire in the engine room
#1

As you might have seen here:

http://www.968forums.com/topic/11103-mis...when-warm/

my car just burned down, engine room fire. Thinking of how to reduce the loss. Heat was enough to crack the tower strut and to compress the springs, the Control armes cracked.

Interrested in opinons of what can be salvaged (worth trying).

The workshop where the car was (was testdriving) says that the engine is normally salvageble.

Clutch/flywheel was a Porsche 996 GT 3 item.

RS barn header, what does this do to ceramic coating? Can be recoated

Cat back and exhaust should be fine

Gear box should be fine and the whole rear suspension.

How about rear tires? How sensitive are R compount tires to heat?

Alloy cage affected by heat?

Just trying to make the news a little less hard to bear.

use the temperatures of the fire as a gauge as to whether or not it damaged something

the header should be fine - the pipe gets a lot hotter than a fuel fire would be

tires probably shot up front at least

maybe not the clutch disk though, and the grease in the release bearing is probably shot

the rest of your list should be fine

So sorry for your loss. If you have pictures of the car's condition after the fire, it might help those who dare to look at them to assist you with options.
