Now I am wondering if this is a good or bad thing...Europe only starts at 95 and I usually put 98 or 100 in when filling up. Does this mean I am wasting my money on the higher octane, or will the chip know how to deal with them as well?

I'm clueless when it comes to these things

Pete told me that the stage one rev limit is set to approx 7200 rpm and that there is no real use in revving past 7 grand with an otherwise stock engine (save for airbox mod and filter). Ideal shifting revs are supposedly 6800 - 7000 rpm. I now shift at 7000 and it feels more natural than having the stock limiter kick in at like 6.6 or so (which it did for me on numerous occasions). If going by the ear and gut I seem to hit the 7000 mark fairly accurate, without having to pay attention to the rev counter.

As for fuel, Porsche recommends 98 although it will run on 95 so that makes it easy for me. Pete told me that the chip is made for 98. But V-Power and the like may have other advantages compared to 'normal' fuel - I seem to recall that V-Power isn't diluted by ethanol and as far as corrosion goes that is a good thing.

98 RON =(?) 93 Ron+Mon/2

We call it Premium in the US...93 Octane using the 2nd method described above.

The nearest (and also least expensive) gas station to my house is the local WaWa. Unfortunately, it only has 92. I know I won't get the *maximum* performance out of the chip (or the car for that matter), but should I really search out and get 93 or better for the 968?? Can the additional one point make a noticeable difference? I don't even know if 93 is available nearby... Another WaWa in Doylestown, but 92 again. Not sure what the gas station across the street has.

There is a Sunoco near my office, but I usually don't take the 968 to work.

Whatever happened to "Ultra 94", and those cheesy commercials - "Take your baby home to meet your mama!" I still have that awful jingle tune in my head "94, Ultra nine-ty-four" (which means it was a good jingle for Sunoco)

Jim, don't worry too much about it.

If it makes you feel better run 93.

That's what I figured, but had to ask anyway.

When opportunity presents itself to further support our reliance on oil, I'll grab a higher grade. If not, then 92 it'll be!

Curious about the different model years and how the ecu differed. From reading the chip shootout I noticed this "Over the production run, the 968 had 2 ECUs, with 2 different chips. Both cars had ECU number 0261-203-070 and chip number 0263-357-459. These were the most common, and were in the cars from mid 93 on". I have a 92 coupe and am looking to put in the stage I RS Barn chip along with air box modification and eventually the Stage II chip and full exhaust. What were these differences from the factory? Can i just install the stage one chip or do I need something custom for a 92 year?

the rs barn chip is based on the early version of the software, and should work in all ECUs because porsche made them backwards compatible. if yours is a very early one, i'd check with pete though to be sure.

now these numbers being thrown around, are they to the wheels or the crank???

because 260 wheel HP out of a 3L 4Cyl motor is pretty nice.
