RS Barn Custom Software
#41

Low-end torque is improved!

I have done the airbox mod. I can not understand why everyone has not done it.

I had a stock chip.

These 2 mods alone make a profound improvement in the car.
modded intake box, stock fuel, power pulleys, rs barn header & cat-back, rs barn stage 2 chip

we're having some fun now[post="16834"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
This pretty much characterizes the setup on my car now, and it's certainly an encouraging number!

Flash: how much of a diff would you ascribe to those pulleys?

I doooo like my aircondtioning cold.....

7hp up to about 2500 - after that, not a lot of difference - think of the ac, power steering, and alternator like pumps - once they build up "pressure" the resistance is constant - the only benefit after that is just the reduced weight

BIG downside - DO NOT do this if you ever plan to sit in traffic or run the lights, washers, etc while idling - there is not enough current to drive the engine at idle, let alone those devices - this is really for a toy or track car, and NOT for a daily driver

So how much HP can you get without forced induction in these cars? Like, with chips, intake, exhaust, etc. 270+?

If you read this post on the previous page of this thread you'll see Flash measured 236HP 'bone stock' using a G-Tech, and got 285 in a car with modified airbox, power pulleys, and the RS Barn header > catback system with Stage 2 chip.

sooo nice to know that ~280hp is in my future! a ways to go before I go that route. . . but whohoo!

In the meantime I will live vicariously through the Flashman <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Flash - how long before bigger brakes? Our stock brakes are pretty damn good though. . .

lol - funny you should mention that - working on something new (i know - no surprise there) - i'm really fine with the braking, and didn;t really need or want more, but i was after less weight - looks like i might get both - if it pans out, it will be a major woohoo, at about half the expense of current brake options

I agree, 270 - 280 sounds very tasty, NA too (I'll even take 260)! I'll start with the airbox mod, and work my way to the exhaust packages, eventually. According to the maintenance record there was a perf chip installed April 22, 1994. But I don't know what it is, or how much it actually helps. The rev limiter is 6500, so no help there. Maybe more agressive (better than stock) timing?

15 minutes and you could find out - i'd get in there anyway - 6500 is lower than stock - not good

Man, you have always got something "in the works". Keep us posted.

RS Barn chip sounds awesome, though I am still having trouble swallowing those numbers! Methinks I will be doing the airbox mod and Stage 1 to my newly aquired 968.

lol - i know - lots on this car that can be improved though, and i love thinking outside the box

the thing with mods is that it's a never ending process - one leads to another - you get more power, now you need more brakes - you get even more power, now you need more suspension - you get more suspension, now you need to stiffen the chassis - yada yada

it's a boat load of fun for me though, and the real reason i bought this car to begin with - i looked at it and said "yeah - that's a car i can tear apart and make work"

Really? I could have sworn it was 6500. Hmmm... time to do some digging tomorrow. Thanks!

Flash (or anyone else with the stage 2 setup) - have you checked your plugs to get a reading on timing and fuel mixture? After my first drive I checked my plugs and I would guess that the system is very lean. I noticed that you are running at +6 for fuel pressure. When I get my car back together this week, I'll do my best to get to the dyno. I'm starting to think that I'll just put the adjustable FPR on and be ready to tweek.

the manual says 6700 redline - reality is usually a bit higher

yes, i have checked the plugs - no i haven't checked timing

i am no longer at +6 psi fuel - at sea level, and this humidity, i am running +4 with the new setup - i will be backing it off as i go up in altitude or down in humidity

on a bone stock motor, does the RS Barn chip outperforms the Speed-6 Racer X chip, Promax 7100 & Promax 7700?
