Right Rear Light Cluster
#1

I know someone has solved this problem. This is on my 92' 968, to replace a light bulb in the rear cluster, you loosen a two inch plastic nut from inside the trunk and the entire light cluster pulls out and there sit the bulbs.

The problem I have run into is that the plastic nut simply turns. As I crawl into the trunk, I can see that the metal screw that is supposed to be solidly attached to the cluster is spining with the nut. I have attempted to hold the screw with some long needle nose pliers, but to no avail. Any thoughts?

While I am asking for help, I replaced the bulbs on the rear left side and now the left front turn signal lights up when I hit the brake pedal. I am heading to the Porsche dealer for some OEM bulbs and perhaps that will solve the problem. Anyone heard of this before?

Thanks for your thoughts

No need to head to the Porsche dealer....they are standard P21W and/or P21/5W bulbs.

As for the spinning screw, I'm guessing it's stripped. I've never attempted a repair but I would think if you could get it out without doing too much damage, it could be epoxied back in.

Get an appropriately-sized threaded coupler on the end of the screw, then put another bolt the same size into the other end of the coupler and tighten it down until it jams/locks them together. Then, you should be able to hold the coupler with a wrench or pliers and turn the plastic nut off.

Edit: Here's a picture.
