replacing the outside drivers mirror
#1

I just pulled into a parking space opened my door and was getting out and the divers side glass fell out. (I did not catch it). My 968 is a coupe 1995. Does anyone know how you detach the plastic frame that is left inside of the metal housing to insert the new mirror?

underneath is a small hole. through that hole you use a tiny screwdriver to rotate a locking ring via the teeth on the ring.

I need to replace the rubber gasket for the DS mirror. Is that little hole the secret passage way to replace that also?

yup - and be EXTREMELY careful when disconnecting the electrical plug from the mirror. FRAGILE!

Mine fell out as well, and I just bought the glass with a tape backing on eBay. It was only $20, and nothing to disassemble. Just peel and stick. Looks like new, and has stayed in place since last summer.

you won't have the heater function with that method.

That would work if all the glass came out clean and the original OEM Housing is still there. I purchased the eBay Mirror Glass with heating and had to use the housing that came with the new glass due the electrical plugs being a different place/shape than the Porsche one so I couldn't use heating even though I ordered the glass w/ heating. Also the adhesive/tape backing was very weak and the glass feel out and broke withhin a month of me installing it using there housing... I Should have gotten OEM Porsche part the 1st time.

I live in LA, and my car is parked in a garage...so no need for the heater function!
