Replacing Door Loccking Knobs (With LED's)
#21

Sorry guys, you were right. After closer inspection I have found that the cables are just cut off deeper in the door and that is why I could not see them. There will be some fun listing out what cables are for what for mirrors.. they are quite many there.

I have power locks and they lock automatically when I start the car. The problem is when passengers try to get out before I turn off the key. The door doesn't open and they immediately turn to pull the lock knob. That plastic piece broke twice in as many months. I thought to myself "there is no way these break that easily" and decided to try the drivers door. I pull on it just enough to unlock and it snapped right off. So now both of mine are snapped. Doesn't matter when using auto locks, but seems like a safety hazzard if for some reason I lost power or lock functionality and was stuck in there.

I find it interesting that you have auto locks. My car doesn't lock but it is a manual - is this a tip function? Maybe you could just find that wire on the alarm box (I assume that's where it is) and disconnect it.
You could install the Bulldog key fobs and never touch the knobs again like I did. My wife did pull up on the passenger side once and pulled the knob off so I crazy glued that puppy back forever.

I have a 6 speed. I think it has something to do with the alarm system. Might be aftermarket, I don't know.

Now I just have a habit of hitting the unlock button in the center console when I am pulling in to parking.

Do these have a more durable connection to the lock mechanism? I have had 3 snapped plastic knobs in 2 years.

First one just broke, sounds like flat metal, and door clips are in order in addition to the new knob. Is this more than, or less than a 2 hour job for a beginner?

It's a 2 hour job with beverages and a rest period. Removing the door is the longest if you have never done it; finding the screws, snaps and familiarizing yourself for reassembly. Know and clip are easily reached after pealing back the vapour barrier. Pulling the locking soloenoid is only a couple of bolts and may help with the clip replacement as there is one fiddly metal retaining clip.

If I hit the locking switch on the console it won't reopen. I had to call someone over while I was in a garage bay at WGIAND and give him my keys to open the door. Felt kind of stupid!
