Hello,
I have done a search and did not find a thread on replacing the door locking knobs (with the LED's on top). Has anyone ever done it? I would appreciate any tips you may have.
I have found the OEM parts on Parts.com for $32. Jager Engineering also has some good looking metal door posts for $39. The stock knobs don't look very durable, has anyone tried the Jager's?
Thanks for any comments you may have.
Joe
I ordered the door lock knobs from Jager Engineering to replace my stock broken LED Knobs. Can I just screw off the stock knob? Or do I have to take apart the door?
Thanks for any comments you may have.

You have to take the door panel off in order to unhook the power line to the LED. You can not pull it out because the plug is clipped to the door frame. LED power Line runs along the top of the door right near the window. Also, on mine, the plastic knob was firmly attached to the locking rod. The rod pops out easily when you reach inside the door to unhook it(if needed).
The door has hidden screws under the armrest, so don't rush it. Also, you will need a door panel tool (flat stiff piece of metal)

Thanks for the tips XRAD. I ordered a tool kit from Pelican that will help with the panels.

might want to order a few plastic door panel clips, too.......these are pretty standard and you could probably find something that fits at a local auto parts place.....

Thanks... I ordered some of the door panel clips.

I liked how the Jager Engineering door lock posts turned out. Here is a pic.
Joe
nice...does it come with the alarm led?
No, it does not. I folded over the LED inside the door and protected the wires with some electrical tape. The LED's had broken off the previous door posts and bare wires were exposed. I picked the Jager posts because they looked good and they were much cheaper than OEM.

These look very nice! I'm using a laptop at the moment with very poor screen resolution, so I'm having a hard time making out the details, but are they aluminum?
I have LED style knobs, but the black plastic cap has broken off the one on the passenger side. Does anyone know if there are replacements for these caps readily available?
I am replacing my knobs. They are original OEM but I have the problem finding what they should connect to. I have maybe 10cm long cables from them to a plastik connector. The old ones were stolen from my car and I wonder if there are any more connections for the those cables near the front of the door, near tweeter?
I don't see any cut cables just connectors but the cables that came with door knobs are way to short.
There should be a connector about 10cm away from the knob. It is a flat rectangle that is attached to the top of the window frame ledge.

Yes, I have those connectors but are there any more further as I can't find any cables from the door that would reach to those rectangles. And I had knobs with diod so there should be cables in the door but they could have been disconnected at the next connection in the door..if there is such?
After the connector mine has wires that travel along the window frame ledge and down into the harness. I had the whole door off once and don't recall any other connectors.
Do these have a more durable connection to the lock mechanism? I have had 3 snapped plastic knobs in 2 years.
Thanks, then I will have to search again... I thought I saw some extra connections that looked like the ones to speaker there.
I have never had to touch the knobs. The knob pops up and down with the key(less) system or the console rocker switch. Or are there 968's without power locks?
