Im very happy with the DIY engine rebuilt in the summer, the car pulls very strong.

Also can be seen the vibration problem ive been trying to figure out but to no avail. you can see the gearshift shaking.

as i reported in this tread.

So any ideas about the Vib prob?

Wish I could give some insight on the shimmy of your gear shifter. Mine is pretty still when in neutral. Does it worsen when in gear?

Hi, regarding the vibration, 2 separate things happen,

1st

At idle the car seems to have a slight vibration like its a missfire, but its not missfiring, this can be felt thru the whole body of the car, even the lights sometimes seem to be shaking. Also felt in the driver seat and also the gear shift vibrates. this vibration is at higher frequency.

the 2nd the vibration on the gearshift only appears between 2900rpm and disapears at 3100 rpm, but its a complete diferent from the 1st one.

Thats what throws me off, the car revs happy to 7000 rpm doesnt miss a beat, i fully rebuilt the engine in august and still have the same problems,

Re-timed cams and belts again to no avail.

well, believe it or not, there could be a balance belt problem - that is to say that, even though the "marks" may line up, the balance shaft could be off - it happens a LOT more than you would think - the shafts are weighted and one can swing down to 180 out if you aren't paying CLOSE attention - i had a shop take the covers off a car twice thinking the marks were off, but it wasn't until the third time that i actually had them remove the front "washer" that i saw that the shaft was off - made me crazy

My first instinct was the MM and the gearbox mount , they were changed with original parts. no change

The sprockets from the shafts were taken out and both keyways are pointing up, on the upper shaft the "O" is top, and on the lower the "O" is down (upsidedown).

sound right? right?. no change

keep those ideias coming plz

Balance shaft alignment would be my first guess too. I would also double check they are aligned with TDC as well as each other.

If the sprocket is properly installed on the upper balance shaft, the "O" stamped on the sprocket will be visible in one of the round openings on the cover.

If the sprocket is properly installed on the lower balance shaft, the "O" stamped on the sprocket will be visible in the rectangular opening on the cover.

I hope you find it.

heres some pics of the shafts with the engine at TDC. am i doing something wrong?

Also the odd bit is that under the car with the engine idling i can feel the vibration on the body and on the engine but not on the crossmember or the suspension?!!

assuming the lower shaft didn't rotate down when you weren't looking before you could put the gear on, everything looks right

ok - that points me to a dual mass flywheel problem
