Rear Wiper - Help!
#1

Well, my rear wiper is stuck in the "ready" position... that is, half up and half down. It is sitting diagonally across the rear window. I would like it to go back to it's original position but either the switch or another connection obviously isn't working. The wiper hasn't worked very well (intermittent) since I got the car awhile back but since I never use it, I didn't care. Is there a common problem with these? I did notice the other day that it was twitching, like it wanted to move but when I hit the switch to turn it on, it stopped and hasn't moved since. Any point in the right direction would be appreciated.

option b: 20 bucks and it's gone and you're a few pounds lighter and no electrical worries

A common problem is there's a pin in the drive box that slides out of position thereby locking the arm. I opened the box, re-positioned the pin, staked it in place and what-do-ya-know, it works again. I made that repair 5 years ago and haven't had an issue since...

I think I like option B, is there a plug/cap/grommet used to cover hole?

I still have mine, but I never use it. Did come in handy
once.

To me it actually looks cleaner without the rear
wiper.

Remove it, like Flash is suggesting

It's an ugly thing anyway

You can usually tell if the pin has slipped and is jamming the wiper as the motor housing will be hot, hot, hot. It's trying deperately to move the wiper the whole time your key is on.

I just looked up the direct link from a message somewhere above that post

... think you can get a (lot) cheaper solution if you go to a general-carparts-store

there is a cheaper one - i'll try to find it, but you can try a search for "rear wiper delete" in the "more options" section of search

I'm surprized how few use the rear wiper - I use it and kind of like it... I'd only remove it if I tracked the car and wanted to lose some weight.

lol - i don't even use front wipers much - probably just got used to the completely ineffective ones on the MGB

i occasionally use the rear one on the denali, but that only when i've been too lazy to clean the darned thing and need to squirt stuff on there and clean it a bit

i can't imagine using one on a 968, but then i don't drive in the rain either - i've changed my wipers on the blue car twice without them ever having been used

Thanks for the tips on the pins. I also want to check to make sure it's getting juice at the connection. I would rather try and repair it first, then plan B. For some reason, even thought I don't drive the car in the rain, I still like the look of the wiper on the back.

To each his own...
