Rear Differencial Fluid Change - Capacity question
#1

I just changed the rear differenctial fluid as I wan't sure how long it had been since it had been changed (if ever). In short, fluid looked pretty clean compared not new, but I changed anyway.

I used the 75-90 GL5 per spec. The manual indicated that it should take .7 liters, which should top it off and I'd see fluid running out of the fill hole. Well, I loaded the full quart (.974ml) in there, and it still doesn't seem to be topping nearing the fill hole.

Question is this. Do I leave well enough alone at 1 quart? Or do I go buy another quart and till till it runs out of the drain hole.

I saw some older threads but didn't see anyone referring to having to add more than 1 liter.

I do recall reading in a manual a while back that on one of the early model differencials, the drain hole was about .2 inchies higher than later models.....but I can't find that article any more.

Just looking for some confidence on volumes before I jump back in and drive.

Thanks

Chris

sorry bout the typos...differential, not differencial. argh....

According to the owners manual and the technical specifications booklet the "manual transmission with differential" has a capacity of 2.75 liters (=.73 US gal) of 75/90 GL 5.

Thanks for the quick response.

I was just pouring thorugh some of my old literature, and I must have been looking at the capacities for the automatic/Tips, and not the manual/transaxle(G44).

Guess I'm back to the store for a few more liters. Thanks again!!!!!! That could have been a costly error.

Its a fill to spill situation, whereas a 944 should be about 6mm below the fill plug.
