you've heard the adage "respect must be earned" - i can respect something that makes sense to me, even if i disagree with it - for example, i can respect somebody who takes the time and trouble to build a harley - i hate them, but i can still respect the work
that's why i said somebody needed to explain it to me - i see no logical reason for keeping that piece of junk in there all the time - i fail to comprehend why anyone would subject themselves to less than they could have - if it were an issue of concourse, it is easily resolved in a quick swap out, and would take less time than wiping down the dash, but why suffer the rest of the time? i'm still looking for a reason to suffer like that
as an example, ayn didn't want to change the stock deck in the 325 either - drove me crazy - made no sense to me - it sounded so bad though that i would just turn it off rather than suffer through it - she thought it was fine - she just didn't know any better - i finally convinced her to put in the Z2 and with the mods i did to the system, she now gets it and wonders how she ever put up with the stock deck - we kept the deck for the 325 and reinstalled it for sale when we moved up to the M3 - it was a simple thing to plan for and implement - we got a great sound when we were driving it, and then it was returned to stock
if you want me to respect the position, it has to make some kind of sense on some level - if for example, you don't listen to music, then fine - if you have a tin ear, then fine - if you don't drive the car, fine - then it would make no sense to upgrade - while i would not agree with the idea, i can still respect the decision
by the way, it is only in full concourse (and possibly preservation) that it would be an issue anyway, and then you have to have something pretty darned special to win - you'd better forget about driving it on the east coast if you want to even think about regional events - the typical pitting and damage to the engine bay alone would deduct too many points - it would be an uphill struggle with a 968 anyway - the judges don't like them - local events are a no brainer and easy to win though
certainly you are entitled to do what you want to do, and i am not suggesting otherwise, but if you want me to get it, you need to make it make sense to me - otherwise, i'm just as entitled to think it's the dumbest thing i have ever heard as you are to think that it's perfect
johann - as for preservation and history, i get the idea, but these cars are not a 1920 rolls - they have no collectability or value, and likely never will - but even so, if you want to preserve it, mothball it and don't drive it - that's why all of the serious concourse guys trailer their cars
consequently, since these are great cars to drive, they should be driven, and should be maximized to enjoy the experience - i am certainly guilty of not driving mine enough - trying to fix that, but i don't drive much at all, so choosing the 968 on any given day is hard
