Hopefully, there is a simple answer to this that I am over looking. The old Alpine cassette head unit is gone (after a little persuation) but I can't seem to get the metal mounting sleeve out in preparation for installing the new mounting sleeve for the new Alpine CD based/sat ready head unit. Are there screws/tabs/etc.? Do you have to remove the center console and detach something from the rear? (which I will be doing anyway to replace the shift boot leather while doing the radio) Thanks...

It's a little stubborn but it will come out. I just pulled mine last week and put in a CDR-210 Becker.



All around the inside of the mounting sleeve are these little "louver-like" weird-shaped tab-like gizmos (how's that for a description?) that bend away from the center of the mounting sleeve and hold the sleeve to the frame. I took a small screwdriver and bent these back out (towards the center of the sleever) and used a pair of needle nose pliars to work the mounting sleeve out. Must be half-dozen or so holding it in.



You don't need to remove the console however, you should remove the plastic piece that holds the clock. Reach inside and expand your hand and pull. Mine was stuck but it came out with with wiggling. Makes it easier to see what you're doing, etc.



When you put the new radio in, don't let any wires get caught on the mounting frame...insert carefully...otherwise you'll cut some wires or cause some shorts and pop some fuses.

I didn't have to remove a sleeve to install the Becker CR-210 when I replaced the CR-1. The CR-1 has brackets on each side atached to the radio that lock into the sleeve. The CR-210 also locks into the same sleeve. Did you try and see if the Alpine radio would mount in the old sleeve?

Old sleeve is OUT!!!...There were two clips; one on each side, that were actually wrapped around and securing the metal sleeve. The new sleeve isn't designed quite the same way, so we'll see how it mounts. New radio would not mount into the old sleeve. The new sleeve should be held in with the narrow finger type thingy(ies) as described previously. There are multiple little "louver-like" weird-shaped tab-like gizmos on this one.
