Prices at the pump
#61

Gee I though all Europeans got a car allowance from their employers. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Ooops must only be our employees over there. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I'm not sure how anyone drives anything that gets under 40mpg over there.

OK now back to the "service station giveaways" The balls they used to give away in the 60's were "tenna toppers" and as I recall they came in other colors than orange.

There were stick-on horse shoes from some station promoting the kick their gas had and I think there were "tiger tails" that you put on the rear of your car as well.

Thats all I can think of. Yeah, I know...I'am freakin old.
we'll probably have to go inland though, because the coastal town i live in will be under water due to the melted polar ice caps
Exactly why I bought my beach-front property in Scottsdale, AZ.

I'm still trying to figure out what to order with my S&H Green Stamps.
Flash....think the one you got is bad...just bought the wife the new SS Trailblazer...to haul the kid around....yeah 13.8 mpg...but dang is it fast...going to the grocery store was never so fun...lucky for us everything is within 5 miles.
I currently own a 2000 Audi A6 Avant. If you disable the speed governor and add Koni shocks, stiffer sway bars you have a very nice handling 155 mph Q-ship that seats and returns decent gas milage, about 20 around town and 24 to 26 on the Interstate. They are very comfortable to drive long distances. I regularly make what would otherwise be the 3 day trip to Yelloewstone NP in 2 days with the Audi. BTW, it has great cargo capacity with the second seats folded down and I also have an aerodynamic cargo box that I can put on the roof if I need it.

The S6 Avant is an even speedier version, if you can find it and the All Road isn't a bad alternative either although the air-suspension can be problimatic. The one I would like to own next is the TDI powered one that is currently only available in Europe.

A6 Avants don't have the towing capacity of an SUV, but the few times that I really need it I just go rent a heavy duty pick-up with a tow package and that works for me.

Much like Jack-n-the-box on the west coast.

almost every thread which came up on search under cost of gas started out with prices at the pump but then turned into an economic-political discussion.. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> , even this one is more about MPG than anything else, but since I don't want to start a new topic, here's what I wanted to mention:

when gas was nearly $ 5/gal. here for 91 oct. , 100 octane was only around $ 6. 50 /gal. now with 91 going for barely $ 2 /gal, 100 octane is still

about $ 6.50 /gal.

wonder why this is the case <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Man, that's just crazy. Costco in North Scottsdale (which is usually about 10-20 cents higher than other Costcos in town) is today:

$1.43 regular

$1.73 premium

Did you call and ask Pelosi?

I had a '99 A6 Avant, which is basically the same car as the 2000. It was our second A6 Avant, as previously we had the former generation one. Loved the car. It did everything well that it was supposed to. Drove beautifully. OK mileage. A little light on torque but acceptable.

Everything was great until about 100k miles, then everything started to quit and break. Not little stuff. Big stuff. Expensive stuff. I traded it for my Mustang GT convertible, as we also have an SUV.
