So filled up this morning at the low low price of $2.95 per gallon(Chevron 91oct.)!!! What is the high mark going to be this year? $3.15? next year will it be normal to be payin $3.25 per gallon. Re-think purchase hmm... Maybee an accord or civic hybrid next year(LOL - yah right)? Demand seems to have opened the roof on gas prices, there is no limit at this point.

Thanks for making me feel better. I was bumming that prices went from $2.21 here to $2.35 in the last couple weeks. This whole thing is making me feel like an old man at 24 years old. I tell my younger brother "I remember when you used to be able to buy a gallon of gas for less than a dollar."

Well I guess we're in the same boat. I seem to recolect, when I was sixteen gas was about $1.10 for 87 oct. Now let's see who post and dates themselves. i remember well below 30 cents a gallon as a kid



soapbox time - i'm hoping it gets up around $4/gal soon - then maybe traffic will die down again - it did a nice job when it took the last hike, a lot of people started using public transit - as a result they also started the plans for a train here to get people off the road



but now people are absorbing the cost, and going back to their cars - arrrrgh



we live in a country of privelege for sure - gas is very cheap here - e've had it soft for a very very long time - people too often forget that driving is privelege and not a right - there are countries that charge you a grand a year just to have a license

I drive my car ~3 days a week, so my girl has to stay on the diet stuff. Does it run that much better on 100? I'd like to try a half tank of 100. I guess I'll have to find some around here.

mine's just a toy, so it gets the good stuff most of the time - i want all the fun my money can buy - sometimes though i run straight 91 - no biggie, especially on longer runs - i never run below 91 though



i've been meaning to post the lists of stations in california - i'll dig it up and do that



half a tank of 100 is quite a bit, but that's about 95 octane when mixed with 91 - with the chip and everything else, it seems i don't see any gains beyond 93 octane, which is 5 gallons of 100 with 15 of 91 per tank (roughly speaking)

When I got my driver's license, I recall that regular was about $0.179 a gallon and premium (had a car that I would only use Amoco premium in) was $0.219 a gallon. I guess this illustrates that it's not so unusual that I now have two grandsons.

I've always figured that gas station owners just wanted to get as much as possible without bumping up to the next cent. People don't really pay attention to the 1/10 of a cent, so it wouldn't make sense to charge less than 9/10 of a cent.

it's carryover marketing thing i'm sure - many moons ago somebody decided that 99 cents or 9/10 of a cent still kept it under the next interval, and gave the illusion of being cheaper - for some reason, for example, most people think of 2.99 being closer to 2 than to 3 - could be an audio association thing - the first thing you hear is "2"

It's all just a conspiracy, now they just all raise their prices together. If one station tries to lower the prices they shut it down.

I am beginning to get used to being in a state of shock regarding gas prices. The most recent jolt came yesterday when I noticed that the gas station in town that is usually the cheapest jumped from $2.529 to $2.679 in one day! My head is still spinning! Stop the insanity... mine.

Think about it this way - September crude oil on the NYMEX closed yesterday at almost $67 per barrel. That's equal to about $1.60 per gallon. If we're paying $2.60 per gallon at the pump for premium, that means that transportation of the crude to a refinery, processing through the refinery, transportation from the refinery to a distribution terminal, then from there to the gas station, plus the cost of additives, plus the cost of advertising, plus the cost of operating the gas station, plus whatever taxes are imposed, are all totaling about $1 per gallon. That's a lot of "bang" for the buck. It also shows that it's not the gas station, or the oil companies, that are driving prices. It's the cost of crude oil - generally driven by supply/demand, with supply managed (more or less) by OPEC.

I paid $2.60 yesterday in Alabama. 968 fill up is no problem, but the X5 gets my attention. I was paying less than $30 for a fill up in my 330I two years ago. Then I bought the X5. $40+ fill ups. That took some adjusting. Now, $60+! Damn!

I don't think anybody will beat your .179 per gallon price. I have 1 granddaughter and I remember 29.9 / gallon. That was back when SERVICE STATIONS not Gas stations made money with car repairs and tire sales. Perhaps that is partially why the price per gallon is higher. I washed my share of windows in my late teens while going to school. Remember the steak knives Shell oil would give away with each fill up? How about a complete set of pilsner glasses? What else does anyone remember that was a promo give-away?
