Porsche 9206 Flywheel Lock
#1

Should know this one, but old age is creeping in!

Does the 9206 Flywheel Lock for the 944 also fit our 6 speed 968's?

If so, ZDmak Tools has them for around $40.00 (oddly, their prices varied from $36 to $42 for what is apparently the same tool!)

IIRC, Porsche now wants something like $100.00 for one of these?

Nope -- doesn't work. The 968 flywheel goes in deeper. It *might* work for 968tip -- if I recall correctly (which is a big if in my age...), tip cars used similar starter as the 944.

I KNEW it was too easy!

So, is there a way to "adapt" the 9206 to fit our 968 6 speeds?

I'm thinking maybe a pair of "Extenders" to set the Lock deeper against the flywheel teeth... as in bar stock, cut to size and drilled...

If I can make this peice work for roughly $40.00, I can cut and drill some bar stock for a lot less than an additional $60.00!

I *should* be possible -- but sounds dodgy, no?

You know, there's a guy over on Rennlist who has used a really large screwdriver to tighten the crankshaft bolt on his 968. It worked, but I wouldn't want to do it...

Personally, I'm in the camp of always using the correct tool for the job. Depending on where you're located, there might be someone nearby you can borrow the tool from.

I agree... would rather use the correct part...

I will probably just order one from my Porsche dealer...

Very few 968's in this part of the country... used to be one other red Cab, but that got sold, so I may be the only one from here to Chicago!

Super of you to offer! If I don't find one locally, I may tke you up on it!

However, I am sort of slow when it comes to working thru a project, and thought it best to not tie up someone else's tool if I could avoid it!

I'm planning a Cam Chain and Variocam Pad change, and also may redo my Clutch, so I will keep looking for a bit, cause I am not going to get to these until well into next year! The wife insists I take her South for the Holidays.. "When Mama ain't happy..." Well you get the idea!

Thanks again, and I may still drop you a note if I don't find one elsewhere!!

Try arnnworx.com for the tool. Bruce makes a bunch of 944 tools and also makes the 968 lock.
