Just installed the LED instrument panel lighting into the 968 Cab (already did this on our 944 NA and 951S) as I finally figured out where the Tiptronic panel harness connectors are downstream and cable tied.
It's pretty easy to do, and you don't have to remove the steering wheel (you have to be willing to compress the plastic oval vent / instrument panel trim when you remove it though). It now takes me about 30-45 minutes re & re to change these lights. While I was in there, I made sure all the idiot... er warning bulbs were OK (4 burned out) too.
The LED panel lighting is a great way to update the panel - but the dimmer no longer works (it will dim a little - say ~10%). The light tunnels are available off eBay now and are easy to install. Plus you can keep the OEM light tunnels and bulb holders to revert back to OEM if desired. You can find them on eBay for around $45-60 for all 3 light arrays.
Here's a few "after" shots and a out of focus shot of the LED light tunnel that snaps into place after you remove the OEM units (the ones with the fading silver reflectors)
