Performance Chip?????
#1

There is a lot of discussion about performance chips on both forums. My question: Is it feasible for me to invest in a chip if I don't plan on racing nor track the car. That being said, I do want to get the most out of the Porsche experience and power without a major investment. What's involved? Simply swapping out the chip? Who has gotten the best results? With what equipment?

Your advice is appreciated!

oh holy cow - yes there is - probably more on that than anything else - have you not read any of the threads yet?

until recently, the best you could do in the way of a chip was with the racer x chip - it outperformed any other chip - you can go to www.9magazine.com and read the article for free in the DIY section under 968 for that

the intake mod is another easy, inexpensive way to power - there is a thread here on that too - that article will also be up there on the magazine site shortly

now, here is the latest:

Thanks Flash! Yes, I've read a ton of info but I was looking for the BEST ADVICE. You guys seem to be on the top of everything. I think this is the best route to boost the power band.

Again, thanks for your wisdom and insight.

no worries - i thought for a minute there perhaps someone had escaped the countless unending threads (sure wish i had) - i imagine they can be a bit overwhelming to say the least, and with as much biased nonsense back and forth, hard for anybody to make a decision

anyway - go with data - you can't go wrong with that - opinions really aren't worth much, and you have to wonder where they come from anyway - it's just easier to let the numbers speak for themselves

I too say thanks...after reading all the threads, this is very clear and concise - get the RSBarn chip! I've had my car since July and it's not a fulltime daily driver, so I haven't had real opportunity to "open 'er up" yet. Wife not crazy about "losing her lunch" while taking highway on ramps and corners at 4K rpm...need more solo time. Due to work schedule, I don't have time to work on the car from August to January. I've been focusing on the interior as time permits but plan on moving under the hood in the upcoming couple of weekends. My first step is the airbox mod and now I have step two. I really wanted to get a feel for the car stock prior to doing any mods, but I'm kinda chomping at the bit to make some performance mods cause it's the right thing to do! Do we add the RSBarn chip to the 968 "DO" section now?

all hubbub aside, most everybody knows that my interest was always merely getting the best chip i could get for the car - nothing more - nothing less - i had to go through a lot of pain and grueling testing to get there, but i finally did - and i was fine with the results, and everybody who compared them had the same results - the racer x was the best chip available - until now

i always said that if somebody came up with one that outperformed the racer x, i would run it

somebody did - now i have that, and have tested it against the previously best chip, and it is better by a wide margin

i haven't tested the stage one chip, and probably won't - i have no reason to - i have what i want - but, based on the fact that the charts i've seen, and the claims pete has made, have all been almost exactly what he said any time i have tested anything of his, i am inclined to believe him when he says that his stage 1 chip outperforms all others

so, yes, get the chip

Waiting for Pete's chips would be why I didn't buy anything earlier. It's good to know it will work out good for me. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Looks like this is something to add to the "Pete's To-Do on my car" list.
