Anybody have a picture of how this piece fits?
#1

I'm afraid this may be the first of many posts of this type as I slowly begin the process of re-assembling my car, and can't remember how to put certain pieces back on <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> . I wanted to get a better look at possible options for mounting an auxiliary oil cooler, and in the process, removed this large plastic panel thingy:

I'm sure I removed it before I took off my front bumper cover to replace the broken grill (see my other post on this), and I remember thinking to myself, "You're NEVER going to remember how to put this thing back on...", as it was a bit of a struggle to twist and distort it to yank it out.

So, did I bother to snap a picture? No, of course not - that would have been WAY too intelligent and logical. I tried to get it back on for about 45 minutes last night, but I just can't seem to get it oriented right. I can see the attachment screws, and where they go on the piece (what the heck is this thing, anyway?), but I can't seem to figure out how to fit it back on. Does anybody happen to have a picture of their, or any other 968, with the front bumper cover off that gives a clear view of this thing? I know it must be in the PET, or maybe even in the workshop manual, but a photo, as opposed to a drawing, would be more useful, I think. I'm sure I could figure it out if I took the bumper cover back off, but I'd like to do this as a last resort, as maneuvering the cover by myself is a royal pain, plus there's the risk of damaging it. Thanks in advance.

Andy,

I have an exploded view of the front bumper that might be of assistance. This part is the air duct.

The forum doesn't allow me to attach a ppt file so I will send to you by email.

Hope this helps.

Andy,

It needs to go back in, as this is one of the issues I had with not enough air getting to the radiator - it effectively ducts the air to the radiator. Make sure you also have the top radiator cover trim piece to stop air spilling over the top of the radiator as well.

Well, I got it back in, but I had to remove the bumper cover (again) to do it, and this is pretty much the exact opposite of fun. There was just too much risk of breaking either this piece, or worse, the bumper cover, by trying to contort it back into place with the bumper cover on. With the bumper cover off, it was trivial to reattach this panel. Thanks again, Rob, for the diagram. I'm sure this won't be my last "cry for help." But I have to say, the process of trying to remember things, and trying different approaches to get things put back together, does in a weird way help the learning process.
