I am in a place in my life that I can see 10-15 years ahead for the first time. I have a small business that is doing well and am recovering from parting with all my toys. I sold a 1973 911 and a 1990 944 Cabriolet and am looking to replace them with a 968 coupe (black, white or silver)
I have owned several VW's two Porsches a few Audis and even one BMW. I have looked high and low for the perfect car for me and the 968 is going to be it. I really enjoyed the 944 cabriolet that I had for a few years. The torque tube went bad and I sold it for pennies because I was in a tight spot and wasn't driving it at the time.
I know that I don't need to sing the praises of this car to the crowd here but... the front engine rear drive hatchback design is the most user friendly design on the road. Big enough to carry two adults and two full sets of golf clubs. Smooth, fast and rare, most people don't even know what it is and that does it for me.
I imagine that if I can find a good one that I will keep it for the remainder of my life and smile for many years knowing that I don't need look for a next best thing.
As far as the personal info goes:
I am a husband of 24 years. The father of 7 children (some biological some adopted, mixed up group of races and genders.) I am an Internet marketing expert and sell my services to Realtors and Professionals on a monthly subscription basis. I like to mountain bike, ski and snowboard, golf, wakeboard, and plan on owning a 27' sail boat before too long. I live in a relatively small town (60K) called Bellingham WA - about 90 miles north of Seattle. I am just about even with the San Juan Islands and can see most of them from my neighborhood. I work from home and don't really spend that much time working - so I have a lot of time to play - drive around - and spend time with my family. I am a skilled fabricator, welder, painter and like to tinker in the shop.
I look forward to reading everything in this forum and will try to contribute from time to time.

Hi Scott, welcome, you're going to love the 968, it does everything really well. Find a good one, and you have the equivalent of a $50K car for 1/3 the price. I just spent the about 75% of the past 3 months in Kirkland, really love the area, you live in a great part of the country.

Scott,

Welcome from Sammamish.
I enjoyed today's sunny weather...can't help thinking that top down weather is almost here; maybe a run this weekend up to Snowqualmie falls!
I hope that you find your 968...not too easy around here.

Welcome Scott,

I live just "across the line" to the north. I ended going "down south" and buying my 968 Cabriolet in the Seattle area this past December ( a Merry Christmas "to me" present ). I have not seen a 968 Coupe for sale in your area in the past few months. There are two for sale in the Vancouver (Canada) area, one I think has been brought in from "abroad" and the other seems to have been tracked. If you look around to the south you should come across one that will meet your expectations.
Brian just mentioned the great weather we have been blessed with these past few days, and it prompted me to go out yesterday and get insurance for my 968. I drove it around today with the top down. I never imagined that I would be putting it on the road in February! I had expected it to be sometime in April. Got to love "El Nino", although the Olympics here are being challenged with the weather we are experiencing.
I was smiling when I read that you have been married for 24 years and have 7 children. Darlene and I will reach year 23 this year and I have 5 children. Only the youngest does not have a driver's license, so not too much demand for >2 seating arrangement.
Keep us posted on your search. I would like to see if sometime this summer we can get the BC 968 owners to meet up with the WA 968 owners (maybe even those from Oregon).

Cheers,
Jake Kuik - Langley968

Hi all!

Still trying to get inside the fence here. Have been waiting for a week to look around and blocked from pretty much everything. Pretty frustrating as a new user to get the run around for a week. Just trying to join in - why all the flaming hoops?

Welcome Scott,

The more you post the more you can see. I think by your 3rd post a lot more opens up.

the "hoops" are here for very specific reasons - you will find that we have zero spammers, and no kids arguing

the hoops are also there to help ensure that new members read before asking questions that have already been answered like "will these wheels fit?" or "what kinds of mods can i do?" or "how dependable is a 968?" - all of that information is already here

it's just a "crawl before walk before run" kind of thing - the progression is very fast though, as we don't want to hamstring people for too long

read and enjoy

I'm a big fan of this system. Makes things organized and keeps the junk out.

Scott, the more you post.....the more things will unlock. Welcome to the best 968 resource on the planet.

I know that many other forums are have a huge SPAM problem and if anyone is interested I could write a discourse on how and why. I am a professional search engine marketer and we actually use high PR forums as part of our linking campaign. It's pretty much Google's fault because of the game they have set in motion. I am forced to play the game because they basically own 70% of the search engine traffic here on planet earth. My interest here is straight up and I am impressed at the wall you have built around your site. It does however take man hours to maintain and creates a little frustration for new users. I am happy to see that you don't try to rely on technology alone as your only defense because that is only a small bump in the road if a spammer wants to get in.

CC (professional spammer and 968 lover)

Note* I may drop a link or two - please don't chase me out - it took me a week to get in.

lol - it will be worth it once you get in - you'll find that all of the members here are very passionate about the 968, and for the most part keep things focused and on track, making this a well organized and effective resource for all

as for links, or any such form of promotion of non-paying advertisers, particularly if they are not a 968 related vendor, we have a very strict policy prohibiting links being posted in signatures, posts, and such, so please keep that in mind - should you wish to become an advertiser, contact the admin

Scott,

Just add a few replies to the "Introduction" threads and your post count will quickly reach the level that will "open" this wonderful "968 World" up to you. What Flash stated: "the hoops are also there to help ensure that new members read before asking questions that have already been answered" is true. It has forced me to look around and find a lot of good information without having to resurect the issue.

That would NOT be a thing to do.

Without sounding like Big Brother, "Fluff Posts" just to bump level will be deleted, and the member returned to the appropriate level. Repetition of this behavior could result in further action. Please do not do that.

The system works. As you said, it forced you to read. That is exactly what we want. It makes for better, more focused threads, and much better and more complete content.

New members need to be patient and work with the system. It doesn't take much to move up.

Extending a warm "Welcome" to new someone in Introductions can hardly be considered a "fluff" post. That is what I meant. When first posting a thread under Introductions and getting several (hopefully many) "welcome" replies, makes one feel that you are truly welcome into this unique community.
I do appreciate the care that the Administrator and "others" have to keeping this a "pure" site. Keep up the good work!

that is definitely something we all strive to do, and certainly nobody would object to the new member responding to those welcomes - i think the issue would be posting something, just for the purpose of bumping someone's post count (i.e. a post that said "bump") - that circumvents the intent of the "ladder"

the lower levels graduate very quickly (0,1,2,4), so it should not be an issue really

I believe this system is working as it a nice forum and probably "the hoops are also there to help ensure that new members read before asking questions that have already been answered" is true but one problem is that one can't see the attachments and that makes most of the post completely useless. For example I know that there are good instructions on how to dismount bumpers but all that info is in attachments. That would almost force someone ask that question again to get it in plain text...

you get to see the attachments for almost everything at the second level, so it's a pretty quick process
