Hello from West Palm Beach
#1

Hi all, my name is David Brown. I recently joined SCCA and have been looking for a car that my wife and I can use for both sport club racing as well as cruising the back roads. I have owned and raced a pre 85 944 that did incredibly well during my youthful days and as much as I tried to kill that car, it just would not go down. It reliably took me wherever I wanted to go and fast at that. In my recent past Ive been looking at Alfa Romeo GTV-6's (remember those?) and lost several bids on BaT and Ebay because I just did not believe that cars to be that valuable. So I started bouncing back and forth between the Alfas and 944's again (mostly because of reliability) and a stumbled upon the 968. I have spent the entire day learning more and more about the car and I must admit that I am completely enthralled with what I have read. I look forward to learning more about the car and hopefully purchase one. I have read the must do list when buying one that you have so eloquently listed (great List!) and without a doubt, my love for 944's has been transferred to the 968. It seems like a great purchase price wise as it would seem to be going up higher than 944s. I work as a sailboat captain on a 91ft. custom sailboat, I ride a lovely BMW motorbike and love flying planes too. I guess I just like driving things, regardless of the location! I look forward to reading even more about the forum and it would seem that you have a great group of enthusiast. Thank you for letting me be a part of it. Cheers, David

Welcome David,

Too bad you just joined, I was in WPB last weekend for the Eagles/Dolphins debacle, I could have used (another) drink...and I always love chatting about the virtues of the 968.

Enjoy the site,

Jay

G'day David I've only been with this group for a few months, but like you am impressed my the volume of information and the commitment of the contributors. My great aunt lived in WPB and I visited back in the 70s. Got told off for removing my t-shirt on the beach; a public disgrace in those days! I now live in Southern France, again probably a public disgrace, but this time it's my fashion choices Sad

Have fun, Robert

Welcome, we seem to have the same bad habits (sailing, planes, and 968's). Let us know what you are looking for as cabs and coupes have different strengths and weaknesses.

When I was looking for mine about 7 years ago, I seem to recall that there were quite a few in the Florida area.

Good luck in your search!

No they don't .. coupes have all the strengths, cabs have only weaknesses.     IMHO, but of course it's all supported by indisputable facts .   And I don't want to hear " but with a cab I get the wind in my hair " nonsense,  the coupe's removable sunroof is so large it practically converts the car into a targa.      Ok, lighthearted stuff aside, welcome and best of luck with your search, follow with your heart, never your brain.

Cab's are TOTAL chick-magnets!

Maybe, but that’s disputable. Although fine, I’ll agree to one single advantage ; they look a bit sleeker, and in that sense less “ dated “ than the coupes .
