ceramic coating does help scavenging - it contains the heat much better than without - the under hood temps don't change all that much, but the heat soak period does

Would a non-coated RS Barn header tend to wear out any faster than the stock exhaust? And if so, why? Does it have thinner walls that the stock exhaust? Thanks.

As I do only 3k miles a year, I don't think much about wearing out a heater within the next decenium.
But for other people, other factors could change things ... ?
It's not an exact science for me, but for my feeling I would spend the extra cost for other things (even some new part for my bicycle).
Perhaps, it's more a persona,l subjectif feeling ...

I still don't have my exhasut [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif[/img] it's been stuck in customs since 28 January...and according to them they can hold onto the package for 30 days. It's so hard to be patient.

That's beacuse it takes them that long to assemble it, learn to play the Alpenhorn and package it back up again like new. Check for lip marks on the header and drain the spit valve [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif[/img]

So that I don't go out of my mind waiting for the damn exhaust, I am going to jack the car up tonight. I think I will start spraying those exhaust bolt with penetrating fluid.

Any tips on loosening the old studs?

seriously, the best thing you can do is make sure you have to tools to get on them - it took me a swivel, a long extension, a short extension, and a deep socket to reach them all well

Replacing the old exaust with a new catback was easy ( other than supporting the weight of the old one without a stand of any kind.. what was I thinking [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif[/img] ?! ) but no problems with bolts or anything else of that sort if I recall..

Mind you, this is from someone who is as mecnaically challenged as it gets, I rarely do anything on this car myself. So if I say it's easy.. 99% of you guys can probably do the job blindfolded and using one wrench.

But that does remind me of a repair tip to pass along : One way to get the dings out of your doors is to wait until
the exhaust completely cools down and then blow really hard into the tailpipe. But here's the important part: make sure your windows are rolled up all the way to prevent air from escaping !

Finished installing it and ran upstairs to find the key...only to find my battery completely flat [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif[/img]

Installation was really easy. Here are a couple of things I noticed:
- I was surprised that there is only a back box, I thought there would be two boxes
- The back box does not sit in the same spot as the stock back box. It sits more to the side of the car and as such is not fully covered by the heat shield.

Now I am just waiting for the charger to do it's job.

Ok, so I couldn't wait any longer so I went down to give it a go, and even though the engine struggled to turn over she fired up.

I can confirm that the RS Barn catback is a beautiful sounding exhaust. I can just imagine the tunes they must have played on it back at the customs office [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif[/img]

The tinny sound of the stock exhaust has been replaced by a deeper tone with a raspy edge when you blip the throttle.

In short, I am a very happy man
