Cam pads replaced at 138K miles
#1

I just replaced my cam pads after 138K miles, along with the chain.
Well... when I say "I replaced", I mean Max at RSBarn replaced them. I provided financial backing for the venture...

Here is what they looked like. I apologize for the low quality pictures, taken with my cell phone. They're probably good enough to give you an idea of the condition.

Not at the point of iminent failure, but it was definately time to replace them.
The worse of the two is the bottom pad.
We had inspected them 6 months ago and noted the grooves and pitting. This was on the to-do list and I'll sleep better at night knowing that this is done.

Just a data point.

I'd say you made a good, and timely, investment. And, of course, kudos to Max (and, by extension, Pete).

I'm guessing other things replaced as well like chain and belts?

Jamie,

That's some serious pitting and grooving. And I am told that the pads also become brittle with age, which makes sense. Really good move to have them replaced now. I had mine done at 72k miles and I just passed 75k last week. You had the right shop do the work. $1 at RS Barn is like $5 anywhere else.

This is definitely true.

If RSBarn closes, I will have to sell my car.

I'm thinking about taking out a life insurance policy on Pete and Max.

Xrad,

Yes. Chain too.

The belts were replaced 2 yrs and 20K miles ago.
I had them inspected and adjusted this time.
Will likely replace them next year on my yearly pilgrimage to the Barn.
Funny. Rather than dreading the thought of taking my car in for service, I can't wait!
