Steering - not as tight as I'd like
#21

Hi guys.
I bought my 92 968 last summer and while driving it on the roads in Washington and Oregon the car was quite unsteady with lots of back and forth movement especially on the roads with "wagenwheel like grooves or depressions. The car seemed to "skate" back and forth between the grooves. I had the car alligned in Oregon and got new tires but the problem was/is still there. It's not as bad on smooth surfaces, but still not "solid" like I would expect.

does all this sound like a "boost" problem? Or is it more likely bushings?

Black Beauty,
Doubt that it's a boost problem. more likely a combination of alignment/bushings and tires. What you may be experiencing is tramlining. Some brands of tires combined with an aggressive alignment can make steering response dicey on less than perfect roads. A good alignment shop can dial some of the sensitivity down while maintaining good steering response.

Problem is multiplied if/when you move to solid bushings. I have had my car out of alignment and realigned many times and found that zero toe in front seems to minimize this behavior the best. YMMV.
