Hi there!
So this is something i was thinking about quite a bit during the last years; should i stay with the stock wheels that work very well... Or should i go bigger. Some 2 weeks ago i decided and ordered. As rotating mass is a concern, due to making the car slower when increased, i wantet to go as light as possible. I ended up on oz alleggrita with michelin cup 2.
Some numbers for the weight of one wheel with tyre:
Stock 225/45/17 pirelli semis on 7.5x17 front 19.5kg
Stock 255/40/17 pirelli on 9x17 rear 22.8kg
New 235/40/18, michelin cup 2 on 8.5x18 front 17.7kg
New 265/35/18, michelin cup 2 on 10x18 rear 20.0kg
As for circumference... About 1 percent more with the new ones, which seems acceptabel for me.
So this is exactly like planed... Bigger, wider... But lighter :-)
There is not much i can tell ylu about handling as the streets are very cold right now in switzerland... Stay carefull.
As for clearance:
No problems at all. Perfect fit on the front axle, while there is quite some room left in the rear. I just ordered a set of 20mm spacers to get the wheels to where i want them to be.
Here also some pics...
Beside the advantage in weight, it is all a question of taste... I like them very much :-)
Have a great weekend
Andi
