New tires any recommendations
#1

Hello

I have 17 inch wheels on my club sport which is purely used on road. The UK roads are getting worse by the year hence I need a forgiving tyre, softer side wall etc.

I was thinking about Michelin Pilot 2 but according to Michelin they only come in XL spec, N3!, extra strong side wall for heavier forces, hence I think not the correct tyre for a 968.

It has Bridgestone on at present S02 model, not been really impressed with them.

Any help would be great as tyres change by the year.

Thanks

First off i would forget about N rated, complete waste of time and money on a 25 year old car, the only reason to use N rated is if you have Porsche warranty on the car and even then it not a legal requirement just an advisory

I can assure you that there is no separate production line for N rated tyres they are all the same

I have GT-Radials on my 17 Cup1's they were quite quiet to start with but now after 10K they are starting to get very noisey

if noise and a softer sidewall ride matters then go for an Asymetric tread pattern like Goodyear asymetric

if you are tracking the car the Nankang NS2R but dont use it in the rain!!

I would just go on a tyre site like tyreleader and have a browse at the noise ratings, lower noise softer sidewalls and gentler tread pattern, harder tyres more noise and less rolling resistance

The Michelin Pilot Super Sport has been my favorite road tire on any car I've had it on. Very comfy ride, great grip in dry and wet. I've read that the Pilot Sport 4S takes it even a step further, and is as good of a combination of grip, comfort, and noise as you'll get.

Thanks for info, so would the general opinion be if you go for Michelin tyres is the sport 4 better than pilot sport 2 ?

Will look at Goodyear’s , never had them

What tread pattern is best to resist tram linning?

Roads in Uk are shocking

Thanks

Any big block tread or big radial grooves will not help, you won't go far wrong with a asymmetric pattern

If you are having big issues with tramlining then have your castor mounts inspected and if they are a bit suspect replace them

Also have your geo checked by someone who knows what they are upto, the rear can really affect the way the front behaves
